Favourite cover songs?

I never said it was better, I said I liked it. The harmonies are more pronounced and well done.

True, it doesn't have to be better to be enjoyable. I've always thought that some of the more classic songs should be left alone but that's just my opinion and of course it's a matter of opinion as to what constitutes a classic.

The best thing about the original is with 8.5 minutes of music, it's long enough to put on and go pee. ahhh Memories of AM dj days. :)

I wish the remake had contained all of the lyrics, so the original is better for that too.

Do you mean that "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred isn't a classic? Say it ain't so!

proud mary by ccr or ike &tina turner im not sure who did it first, but both versions kick ass
johnny cash "hurt"

You've got a way about you IFB. ;)

I struggled with replying to you since it will open me up to killing again, however since I'm not premeditating and I wanted to thank you for the compliment, I think I can plea down from murder to threadslaughter. So thanks, boogerbunny. ;-)

I think when Foo Fighters do covers they are usually pretty good, "Baker Street" and "Have a Cigar" come to mind. Speaking of "Have a Cigar", Primus did that one justice some years ago.

I've seen alot of Metallica mentions but no one talked up that smoking version of "Stone Cold Crazy" by Queen.

Mathew Sweet does a kick ass version of "Magnet and Steel".

311 just did a sweet run of "Love Song" by the Cure - a band I don't really like. The cover has made me reconsider my distaste for whiny brits.

Then there is always the cover from which my nom de plume comes: "Fat Man and Dancing Girl" covered by Self. This was originally a song by Susanne Vega.

I think that Cover of "Tweeter and the Monkey Man" that somebody mentioned before was done by the Headstones.

Mary Lou Lord did the sweetest broken down version of Ween's "Birthday Boy" that I've ever heard.

Whenever Rahzel does rock songs I'm always amazed....

Anyone down with Vanilla Ice's version of "Play that Funky Music..."?

Oh, that one belongs in the hall of fame. :)
I can't say too much, I took the time to download it and have it on my PC. But then I also have several Wierd Al songs.

Boogerbunny? awww You're sweet, not the rabid weirdo everyone said. *muttering* "Dammit." :D

I love 311, but this is one of the few songs they've done I hate. Original Cure rocks. ...and watch the Brit comments. I have a whiffle ball bat and some peanut butter with your name on it.

*nods* Bruce Springsteen does a good version too.

Um No. *adds tacks to peanut butter for IFB*

Oh yeah......if anyone has the newer Perfect Circle album there is a song on there called "The Nurse Who Loved Me", this was originally done by the late, great, Failure......

I dug Fiona Apple's "Across the Universe" too.

Always fun at a party is the "Hempilation" comp.....there is a classic version of Steppenwolf's"The Pusher" performed by Government Mule along with a bunch of cool covers.

I really like The Ramone's cover of Subsitute (the who) and speaking of The Ramone's, i like Joey Ramone's version of What A Wonderful World (i'm not sure who did the original).

I respect The Cure...I just don't groove on them, so please......save the wiffle, butter, tack, thrust manuever for the bedroom ;-)

And I dont; know WHO told you I was a rabid weirdo, but you BETTER FUCKING TELL ME.......becuase....uhh.......I'd like to thank them. :)

Oh and who can forget a classic cover like The Doors "Alabama Song" originally done by I have no idea band.

Louis Armstrong did the original if it's the one I am thinking of.

Yes.. The Headstones are the ones that do "Tweeter And the Monkeyman"

Very cool version... Haven't heard Bruce's version though.

Ministry does an awesome cover of Bob Dylan's "Lay lady Lay" on the Filth Pig album.....it's gold.

That's a good one. Also, you were talking about the Cure, they did a trippy cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze", check it out if you havent heard it.

I just listened to the Toadies covering Thin Lizzie's "The Cowboy Song", it was pretty good.

currently i like the foo fighters version of "darling nikki".

bow wow wow's "i want candy".

why...did google explode or something?

it was a whats your fave list, not lets see who can seek out the most cover tunes.

I was thinking the same about Lady Christabel and a couple others in here who listed literally DOZENS of favorites in almost alphabetical order it seemed.

Okay, I can't be fucked with Google now, so here are some I happen to enjoy (in no particular order)...

FAITH NO MORE - "Easy Like Sunday Morning" (Lionel Richie)

ALANIS MORISSETTE - "King of Pain" (Sting)

CAKE - "I Will Survive" (Gloria G.)

LENNY KRAVITZ - "American Woman" (Guess Who? whatever)

NIRVANA - "The Man Who Sold The World" (Bowie)

Am I the only one who couldn't/can't stand the Johnny Cash version of Trent's "Hurt" ? Very depressing and just, eh, something I heard once so why hear it again, you know?
