We're doing favorite prison movies, so how about favorite war movies?

Do you have one favorite? One favorite for each war? WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam? Is your favorite one movie not even about an American war?

I think I've watched every war movie there is....and i swear "Saving Private Ryan" is the best there is...the realism is what gets me...i honestly believe that was the closest to recreating a war that has been filmed...i like john wayne movies too..except those where he played a yankee (cant watch those)

I don't watch a lot of war movies but I really liked Saving Private Ryan. I'm watching Band of Brothers on HBO, i like it as well.

Life is Beautiful

it was an excellent movie, and i found it to be much better than Saving Private Ryan

The Battle of Britain:
Perhaps overlong, but the air-to-air action sequences are great. Unforgettable and superlative score by William Walton.

actually "Thin Red Line" was very, very good. but you have to slow down and watch it a couple of times to really get it....

kelly.s heroes,

a good cast and a different way to look at some of the foolish aspects of war.

Full Metal Jacket rocks!!!!

Definitely one of my favorite Vietnam war movies. Have you watched Law & Order:Criminal Intent? Vincent D'Onofrio (Private Pyle) is in it.

MASH was funny as hell....and Apocolypse Now is def up near the top...deep as hell...who liked "The Deer Hunter"?

I liked M*A*S*H with Elliot Gould

Definitely my favorite in the "Korean War category"....I hear the TV show was pretty good too. lol.

And don't forget "Heartbreak Ridge" the BEST movie made about Grenada. (Also, possibly the ONLY movie made about Grenada...)

Memphis Belle is one of my favourites because of the subject matter. Those men displayed such admirable courage in continually flying in daylight over Germany.

My favorite is "Gettysburg"......I didn't realize how bloody the Civil War was until I saw that movie. I also liked "Glory", anyone remember that one?

Gettysburg

I love that film, and love the park .. am a civil war freak I guess..

there's something about when Jeff Daniels screams :"Bayonets!" that absolutely makes me bawl...

yep pokerman, i am addicted i think he is great in it.............

favorite war movie

The Bridge on the River Kwai, with Apocolypse Now a close second.

I am not really a big fan of war movies but these two are great.

"Saving Private Ryan" was one of the best. The war sequences were gut-wrenching. I also liked "Full Metal Jacket."

Stripes wasn't a war movie. It was an Army movie, but it didn't have anything to do with war.

My faves:

Mister Roberts
Ensign Pulver
Operation Petticoat
The Private War of Harry Frigg
The Dirty Dozen (the book was much better)

I had forgotten about Mister Roberts, Henry Fonda and Jack Lemmon were great.
I had also forgotten one of my favorite alltime movies, The African Queen, Bogie and Hepburn, a great combo and Houston behind the camera.

I love the African Queen, it's one of my all time favorites. I completely forgot that it actually did fall in the war movie category.
