I have a few:

The original Swedish Girl on Fire Series: Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Girl who Played with Fire, Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest

Princess Bride

Pride and Prejudice (1995, BBC version)

The Killing Fields. Wow. Having seen it first hand it was so so terrible.

Have to say that most movies based on the book I saw suck compared to the book. But one I could pick up was 2021: A Space Odyssey. Stanley Kubrick did magnificent job with that one.

Lord of the Rings. I was stunned 1) How faithful to the books it was and 2) How many scenes were depicted just as I imagined them.

Would we consider The Shawshank Redemption to be based on a book? Technically, I think it was a short story in an anthology...

Can it be a show? If so, Normal People.

If not, pride and prejudice

I never read Shawshank Redemption. I always assumed it was a novel, but we can say it counts. :)

I guess I didn't consider Pride and Prejudice a show but it technically is a mini series. I listed it too, so yes, shows also count :)

Yes, the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice is my all-time favorite book-to-film. Yes it's a mini-series, but it's so good and it tops any of the film versions that have been done. Even better than the 2005 version which I do like as well.
