I am a very long time member of Lit. I write but it is not as serious endeavor for me. Just for fun. As such, I don't get too hung up on ratings, views, etc. Almost all of the comments I get are positive and of course, that's nice. If anyone comments and leaves a name, I always write back. Since most of my stories are really old, it surprises me that some even get read at all at this point. I like the idea though.

Anyway, every once in a while, I see that one of my stories has been made a favorite of someones. I usually go to their bio to get some idea of who they are. I check to see if they have written anything and also what their other favorites are. This has been a good way to find stories for me to read that I might like.

What I have noticed in recent years is that some of these folks have virtually no information in their bio. They don't have any stories or poems of their own and when you check their favorites, there are practically hundreds of stories and authors! So what gives? Who are these people? Are they not people at all and really bots? What's the point of loading up with skillions of favorite stories and authors? A conundrum?

Different people use the favourites function in different ways. I think some just use it as a way to keep track of everything they've already read.

Some don't want any possibly identifying information.
They don't have any stories or poems of their own
Readers outnumber authors outnumber AHers.
and when you check their favorites, there are practically hundreds of stories and authors!
New tools have made for easier story tracking but some of us used favs/follows in rudimentary fashion back in the day.

Like zero inbox, sometimes cleanup effort just ain't worth the payoff.
So what gives? Who are these people?
Everybody has their own motivations and ways they want/don't want to engage here.
Are they not people at all and really bots?
Possibly but the benefit seems nebulous unless an account is focusing on a specific handful of authors to prop up.
What's the point of loading up with skillions of favorite stories and authors? A conundrum?
Again, it doesn't have to have a point. Not learning the new efficiency tools. Laziness. Misunderstanding. Possibilities are endless.

If I favorite a story, I follow the author. If I want to be able to find a story again, I favorite it. I have hundreds of each. In the old days, I used favorites as a read later list. Now we actually have a read later list so I've stopped that. I think I've eventually read most of the old ones where I was using it as a read later solution. So they're pretty much all stories I've genuinely read and liked.

I had nothing in my profile until I started writing. All it means is that they registered an account and put the minimum amount of into to complete the process.

I think they are just readers who favorite as a way to track what stories they have read, so if one sounds familiar they can go back and check.
