Why does the system nearly always pick the same stories as recommendations?

I get 'Three days of watching my wife fuck' for around a third of the stories I read, even if they are extremely dissimilar stories and I could see literally dozens of stories closer to that one.

Anyone have any input?

I think it is done by favourites. So people who favourited the story you are reading obviously all favourited that story too.

It happens a lot. In Lesbian Sex, almost every story has "lovers without realising it" as a recommendation as so many people has it as a favourite. It's behemoth of the genre.

As an aside, that story was maybe one of the first ones I read on this site and got me into erotica. I feel indebted to it in many ways. But I agree, some variety in exposure to other stories would be nice.

Facts! I feel like no matter what story I read... at the bottom its "Comforting My Neighbors Daughter" or "Mom's disgusting boyfriend." I get it its an algorithm or whatever but Geez there's like 48 thousand stories on here.

You have to read, rate, favourite and comment on a story for it to be removed from the "Recommended" list.
Really? I have ones where I have done all three pop up. I also get my own stories recommended to me sometimes! Which is nice...

I seem to get this rec very frequently, along with "The Busty Babysitter." That one, I've read; wasn't bad at all. But it's not like I want to read it every time I visit the site.

We had a lengthy thread about it a while back and IIRC this seems to be correct, "similar stories" are based on the number of people who favourited this story and that story.

For stories which don't yet have enough favourites to make that work, it seems to be based on tags instead.

All I know is suddenly one of my older stories seems to have a lot of traffic. I wonder if it is listed as a similar story somewhere but it would be nearly impossible to find out where.

Look at the similar stories list for that story. Your story might show up as a similar story on their lists.

I frequently see one particular story get a pop for a day or two. I think there are various ways the site surfaces old stories to get a smidge of attention. It is true that when a story is new, the "similar" list is based on keywords, rather than likes. So that is one possibility. Another might be the various "random story" lists on category pages and such.

Definitely noticed the same thing on stories I've read. I often check the recommendations after the end and so many times I've already seen/read all of them. And sometimes I just really want to find something similar but new.
