What's your view on people using stock shots of other people off the Net and pretending that it's them?

Of course, in some cases, it's more a case of not saying it ISN'T them, but rather never actually admitting it IS them .... quite cleverly done in some cases .... but it's still fraud, isn't it?

I'd love to hear other people's views on this one ....

I would imagine it is part of the anonimity for most and for some part of creating a fantasy in other's minds about who they are....

For others it just seems to be a way to express their thoughts or even artistic abilities...

I take them at face value and almost never believe that they are truly the person themselves unless that person tells me so and I feel I can trust them....

But it probably is fraud in some countries....

Not long after i got my AV, I decided to usemy own picture as an AV because I felt weird parading around as someone or soemthing else.

I always have a pic of me up, or some representation of me, now. I don't think any less of those who use others bodies, but I think it's only polite to admit the body part isn't yours if you have borrowed it.

I have no objection against people using other people's bodies in their AV's, for whatever reason, whether it's a representation of how they would LIKE to see themselves, or just as an inducement to attract other posters, but I have seen people using what I know to be pics of other people and to all intents and purposes saying it is them .... just WHO are they kidding? Themselves, mostly, I think ....

You've posed a very valid question. I think to 'borrow' someone else's pic and claim it as one's own is inappropriate especially since we all use the same internet. I do understand the desire for discretion on some people's part, but that can be accomplished without being deceptive. I personally am not aware of anyone who claims such pics are self-portraits, but then again I have never asked.

If you are using a pic that looks like an actual person it should be of yourself. If you are using a stock pic, or a pic from a site, then you need to let people know that is not you.

i think some AV's are clearly not that person but to tell the truth I don't really care about that...as far as mine go some are me and some are not..I have met people that post here and they can tell you what ones are me and what ones aren't I am sure

I agree DLL. I'm not concerned about what a person looks like. I have used only one that makes people wonder. Those who have seen a real picture are not sure... I think I'll post a real one soon!

I don't give it much thought. People have different tastes and different ideas of how they'd like to present themselves or a part of themselves. I have a few that are me but rarely use them - just special occasions - I still have some modesty about them...just me being me.

I enjoy lots of AVs, like Fluff's, it's nice to see who you're posting with ect. The AVs I use generally reflect an emotion or the like. This current picture expresses how I've been feeling of late. I change them every once in a while as my thoughts and feelings change.

Higher, I like the change in your current one. It's always been my favorite and the change of color is really nice. I hope you're well sweets.
