Yup, another computer related question, hoping one (or more) of Lit's Compu Experts walk in...
We have a LACIE external hard disk (EHD) connected to our notebook. We use it sort of as a back up and storage device. But now it seems to be un-approachable...
A while ago I borrowed a digital camera with a memory card for storage. While transferring the pictures to the computer it kept asking if we wanted to format the disk first. I think it's because the same memory card is used in our PSP and there were still some PSP files on the card and our computer was confused by the different formats or something like that. Anyway, of course we cancelled the format procedure and after that everything was OK. This was when transferring the pics onto our other notebook while on vacation.
Then, at home, we transferred the rest of the pics from the card straight to the external hard disk. Again the formatting question. After having transferred all the pics from our other notebook and the card onto the EHD, which seemed to have gone well, we tried to approach the external hard disk and could not. After some trying M finally managed to do so by right-clicking while trying to connect with the external hard disk.
We were relieved and after that everything seemed to work fine again, and since we have connected to the disk several times. Then, all of a sudden, we could not again, and now it looks like there is no way we can, even the right-clicking that solved the problem the first time does not work anymore. Before, the external HD was listed in the directorylist by it's name (H:Lacie), but now it also says H:external harddisk. It looks like the notebook 'sees' something is attached, but does not recognize what it is anymore. I am 100% sure no one did the formatting thing in the meantime ('cause to me that would explain it).
Also, when you try to approach the EHD (H : through the directory path it just starts to 'spin' (or at least makes that sound) as if it tries to find the starting-point or something, but can't.
Anyone have any idea what could be wrong, and, more importantly: how we can fix this? I thought about installing drivers again (but it's plug and play and we never had to do that the first time) but I'm also very afraid we will lose all the data somehow on that disk!
Help!
