Everything stops after page 1

I’ve been reading for years with few problems but now all chapters stop after 1 page. There’s no page, or page numbers, at the end.
I’m a bit slow but noticed that a neat situation would start developing, get better, and come to the end of the page. I’d go back and click on the next chapter and then”hero” would wake up thinking about the previous night.!

I emailed the story to another tablet and that chapter had 12 pages.
I emailed it to my LitE tablet - just one page.
I emailed all story URL’s to myself, deleted all stories on my LitE tablet, rebooted, cleared history and headings, opened LitE, signed back in, opened a story, and still had just one page.
I don’t find anything in the setup that says “Just show page 1 of all stories.”

Odds are it's a cookies thing, if it's only on one device. Try a different web browser (say, switch from Chrome to Vivaldi) and see if that fixes it.

I searched Safari and, on Apple discussions, is a similar problem. “Why does Books only show the first page of each chapter after updating to iOS 18.5?”
Apple tech says they don’t know. A solution mentioned was to change to a different book reader.
This doesn’t prove anything other than it IS possible for a glitch to limit you to just page 1.
That doesn’t really apply to me since this is my old, old iPad Air from 2013 and it has iOS 12.-Something. Apple says that’s up to date so it sounds like support for antique iPads may be slipping.
(My newest 9th Gen iPad is on iOS 18.7.2 now.)
I’m reading now on a 6th Gen iPad with no problems.
I looked up clearing Cookies. I already did that when I cleared Safari, tabs, and complete history.
If all else fails, I’ll see about taking the “air” back to some kind of factory default, erasing everything, and starting over.

Ha! My 3rd post on this. I just looked again, still no obvious page numbers across the bottom of a chapter like before BUT, in the bottom left corner there’s a tiny <>123456 page #.
If I expand that, I can touch one of those single spaced numbers and, I think, see all pages.
Not exactly a “Problem solved!”. Rather a problem workaround that I think I can live with.
