Euro2004 support thread

Fredrik Ljungberg is overrated. I'd rank him as no 3 of the swedish midfielders.

If he can keep his mind on the game, Davids is known as 'the pitbull'. If you need a translation: the terrier.

LOL

If it's male, definitely! :D

Be on stand-by. I may need you and Lou to talk to my fiancee. She keeps talking about wax... but I will not be moved. At least it isn't on my back.

Don't know if everybody has heard the bad news yet, but there is a German ref for the England vs France game. I'm sure he'll be totally unbiased, after all, there is a long history of excellent relations between England and Germany.

*sigh*

If any of you saw that ref on the first leg of the Porto vs. Deportivo Champions League semifinal, being biased will be the least of your problems. It was the worst piece of refereeing I have ever seen at international level, with glaring errors for both sides.

AND he's a dentist.

I saw Bobby Robson at lunch time down at the World Fair site sat outside drinking a beer and chating with a young Portuguese lad in a mixture of Portuguese and English, even his Portuguese had a 'northern accent' :D

By request there will be more non-football Euro 2004 news on a new thread, once I've written today's installment.

LOL - Almost as good an excuse for England to lose than the Greeks and their medicineball against Portugal

One word:

FRANCE

Bobby Robson rules! He was Porto's manager in the first 2 of our 5-titles winning streak. :D

I love Collina. I know zilch about football, but I think he's the greatest ref. Tough, but fair.

And sexy! :p

Ok, settled my team for Portugal's first match, will switch Ricardo for Robinson and Seitaridis for King before Englands game.

1: Ricardo POR
2: Müller SWI
3: Robert Kovac CRO
4: Seitaridis GRE
5: Haas SWI
6: Beckham (C) ENG
7: Rui Costa POR
8: Gerrard ENG
9: Rooney ENG
10: Pauleta POR
11: Simão POR

I banking on England and Portugal both reaching the quarters, otherwise there will have to be major changes.

Hmm... You can't. All changes made to the squad after tomorrow at 3PM will only take effect after the end of Matchday 1, on Tuesday. :(

The Portuguese line-up for tomorrow's match was just announced:

GK:
Ricardo

D:
Paulo Ferreira
Fernando Couto
Jorge Andrade
Rui Jorge

M:
Costinha
Maniche
Figo
Rui Costa

F: Pauleta
Simão

Thanks Lauren!

I've switched them now, figure they will both have more to do against France that the other two against Greece.

It may not be a bad thing that they don't have much to do. For defensive players, having little to do in the back is the best that could happen. Players in your squad will receive points for:

1 - For playing in a game
2 - For playing at least 60 minutes in a game (includes playing points mentioned above)

6 - For each goal scored by your goalkeeper or defenders
5 - For each goal scored by your midfielders
4 - For each goal scored by your forwards
3 - For each goal assist

5 - For your goalkeeper conceding 0 goals and playing at least 60 minutes
4 - For your defenders conceding 0 goals and playing at least 60 minutes
2 - For your midfielders conceding 0 goals and playing at least 60 minutes
5 - For every penalty save

-2 - For every penalty miss
-1 - For every 2 goals conceded by your goalkeeper or defenders
-1 - For every yellow card
-3 - For every red card (includes any yellow card points)

Marvellous!

A German ref, who is also a dentist. Could a person be any more evil than that?

Lou :p  :D

P.S. Another Collina fan here. ;)
