Hi again - another silly question

I got "feedback" emailed to me consisting of - another author sending me links to his stories soliciting feedback.

Is this a proper and/or common use of the Literotica feedback system?

Please advise!

Thanks!

Nope. It isn't.

If you want someone to read and offer feedback personally, you just ask them. (I'd ask first, then send story after they agree.) Generally people will reciprocate - you read mine, I'll read yours, etc.

But you never solicite feedback in that manner. They should be commenting on your work, not shoving theirs in your face. That's just rude.

At the very best, it's a poor way of saying "you should write better, like me." Pretty tactless even in the best light.

Yes, it's tacky but it happens. I just ignore it when it does and go on my way.

Agreed. I think of feedback as a favor asked only of one's close friends and acquaintances. It requires time, attention, and good will - things I would not normally ask of someone I don't know well. They are certainly not things I would ask of anyone for whom I was not willing to return the favor. That, then, is usually my "acid test" for feedback; does that person seem likely to be willing to do the same?

By the way, one of the better ways to get feedback, in my experience, is to do a careful, thoughtful, and supportive job of writing feedback for others (without attaching a "beg" to it). Many people will be kind enough to return the favor.

Wait . . . so shameless begging is a bad thing?

Easy there, Big A. That's limited to story reads. Not to important things.

Tacky, tacky, tacky. It's not proper, I certainly hope it's not common, and I agree with everyone else that it's rude and in poor taste.

I agree it's very rude and improper. I get alot of feedback but have never had one from someone soliciting their own stories. I'd just ignore it.

Thank God someone set the Fuzzy One straight. I'd hate to have to break our little tradition. ;)

Is this a writer that you've previously had contact with or did he/she just find you in the big wide Lit yellow pages?

I imagine, like most, i get a sustantial number of emails requesting for their work to be read..rarely it's stories that have already been posted though...more like they're looking for an edit rather than feedback though.

I find it hard to give feedback to a stranger's work...and i've been cursed with a slew of incredibly earnest but illiterate writers sending me their work.
After several uncomfortable return emails trying to extract as much "good" from the "stories" as i could (in one particular incident, i had to resort to complimenting them on their choice of font...times new roman), i now just refer them to the editor's forum.
