...we love erotic photography. We have a small studio in our house and we produce the artwork for our books by shooting photos of models and then having our artist sketch them--like the one I use for my avatar.

Some hints for those of you wanting erotic photos/art of yourself or your lover.

You don't have to pay for professional work from a reputable amateur or pro. In fact, you can turn the tables in your favour. Many photographers are trying to build a credible portfolio but cannot afford to hire models. Fortunately there are models trying to also build a portfolio who cannot afford a photographer. The way it works is they basically trade services.

You don't have to be an aspiring model to make this sort of arrangement with a photographer. If you're reasonably attractive there will be many who will do the work for trade. Be sure to sign a model release or contract before the work so both of you know what the deal is and, most important, if you don't want the work sold this is the place to specify it. (Paying for the work is no guarantee that a photographer won't do something you don't like with the photos and NO reputable photographer is likely to give the negs to you unless you pay a hefty fee--just the way it works).

First, contact a local college or trade school that teaches photography or, for someone more qualified, contact a club or association and tell them you will model for photos. If you're willing to do it nude or partially nude you will have more offers than you can bear.

Second, take a chaperone with you if you wish and if the photographer says no then back off. When I hire models I want them to be comfortable and my wife is usually there for the shoot. If you want to bring someone it shouldn't matter to a pro or good amateur.

Third, insist on seeing his/her portfolio even if they haven't done any erotic/nude work yet. It will give you an idea of the quality of their work. If it doesn't suit you then the work of you probably will not satisfy you either (it's just a matter of taste).

Fourth, collect images that you like from the web, books, magazines, etc. and provide copies to the photographer to give an idea of what you are looking for. A photographer can usually look at the lighting of an image and duplicate in even a simply studio.

Fifth, have fun.
