I find it very interesting the dichotomy of the styles... and yet at the same time they are very similar... The idea that you need to be in perfect harmony with your horse yet guide it through a series of complex movements without giving apparent signals...

Dressage being derived from a form of military exercise and the reigner/cutters derived from the working ranch hands... yet both. even though the movements and patterns are different. still stress the same basic principals...

Training
Dedication
Balance
Control
Communication

Stacy Westfall is a master of using only leg aids.. not only does she communicate with her horse but she does it bareback without reigns.. something I'm sure most riders would not attempt...

Well said but I would also add "trust" to the equation, in that the horse is trusting the rider to lead it in ways that it can trust yet in the end its the rider that must trust the horse to do the right thing. Even if it goes against the instincts of 1 of the most powerful prey animals on the planet. So for me its about a partnership between 2 very different species finding a way to communicate and trust each other in the task in which they find themselves.

never thought myself a horsey person, but find myself disappointed that some of these links don't open for me... end up with all sorts of things going through my imagination...

*click, click, click* hummm, how would you write the sounds you make when encouraging a horse to move forward?
