This is why the demise of free speech, especially on the campus. Even left-wingers are beginning to notice that the asylum inmates don't take kindly to anyone who crosses their new mythologies about the true nature of woman...

Yeah ... that pretty much was my original point. ButterKnifeChucker just decided to actually take my question literally. The second he did that, I actually realised who Peterson is - I'd deleted him from my recent memory because his work is such unmitigated twaddle, I didn't want it using up thinking space.
(Cue utterly predictable 'jokes' about me needing all the thinking space I can get or other suggestions that my brain is somehow atrophied.)

Chances are, he's better well known in the popular sphere for whatever YouTube videos of him happen to have gone viral. Academics, even in psychology, sociology, and philosophy, have become too specialized and professionalized for most to be familiar with Peterson. In short, few academics give a shit about his brand of tripe.

He didn't write that dumb-arse '10 Rules to Live By' or whatever it was called, did he?" ... where quite clearly I actually do know who he is.

And here is the definition of 'ad hominem': "(of an argument or reaction) directed against a person rather than the position they are maintaining." (That's especially for Bot, because he's so fond of a dictionary definition.) Quite clearly I wasn't attacking Peterson - I know nothing about him personally, and I'm happy to keep it that way. I very definitely was attacking his ideas, and pretty much the ideological underpinnings of the whole 'men need to be men' sad backlash.
