Equality and STEM

And the second time around. And the third. And the 564th...

Everything in her world seems to be made up of NOT "toxic masculinity" and "TOXIC Masculinity", especially the white kind. Which is everyone who disagrees with her regardless of race or sex.

All top secret definitions too....the dictionaries and encyclopedias are all wrong.

The people that are the most rabid in their denunciation of Peterson are those that have never actually listened to his lectures. Peterson is as classical liberal as you can get. It's the fact that he readily destroys their cherished beliefs that drives them nuts.

It like he drives them nuts because that underscores just how far left they've gone and they really, really don't like that.

I see VB is spouting his normal ignorant bullshit. Peterson was well respected and well cited BEFORE he became controversial.

Did anyone actually read the journal article the Atlantic fluff piece is based on?

It's fascinating, and has next to no content that a feminist would disagree with.

...

Yes, that's generally how controversy works. I can't believe I'm actually going to use this emoji, but you have reduced me to it:

Obviously they didn't and probably none of the papers that were cited in that study.

One of the reasons this thread is so amusing.

Justin Bieber sells more records than the London Philharmonic. Twilight outsold Moby Dick.

I like metal.

Millions have heard or read classics throughout the years.

That has nothing to do with to do with millions of men and women reading

Peterson's books or his purely academic writings, now,

I scanned the paper. And that's one reason I haven't commented on it. It really doesn't seem controversial. Though there are probably feminists and others who would disagree with the RWCJ interpretation and remedy.

Your OP was incendiary. The "no one should be surprised by this" bit was belittling, pompous and rude.

Oh yes, the GB right wing nut jobs on this thread are either deliberately misrepresenting what the study says to "stick it to the feminazi libs," or they're idiots who think the study says something it doesn't.

LMAO - what the actual fuck do you know about 'everything in my world'? And your attempt at deriding my position doesn't even make sense - yes, I would agree that masculinity can be defined as either 'toxic' or 'otherwise'. But you seem to be implying that everything in my world is either 'toxic masculinity' or 'not-toxic masculinity' ... how earth would that even be possible?

I was talking about a sub-group of whinging white men - by definition that sub-group is composed of white men. There are probably sub-groups of whinging black men (LJ would tend to suggest this the case), and whinging white women (in fact, that's a definite - I'm engaged in a massive argument with some of them on a feminist site elsewhere), and whinging black women.

I get the words are hard, but do try. Maybe use a dictionary? Bot has quite a few of them.

The only point I made was about your abject ignorance followed by your condescending know-it-all attitude...

;) ;)

... without doing a lick of research because, like pornography, you know it when you see it. I just handed you the rope sweetie, you tied the noose.

Also, YOU'RE calling ME 'condescending'? SERIOUSLY?

Who's Molyneux?

I'm not sure if you're being ironic or not ... if you are, touche.

If not - he's a doozy. The Wiki entry is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefan_Molyneux ... but it's not hard to find his ramblings all over the internet, in spite of his protestations that his right to free speech gets silenced. It's the thing that cracks me up about these 'free speech' arguments - there's quite patently no shortage of Molyneux's speech, and I'm guessing it's the same for Peterson, and it's all utterly and freely available.

That’s funny, you keep digging that hole.

Yeah but bearing in mind 12 Rules was only published on 23rd Jan 2018 and he didn’t really come to prominence until later that year, not 30 years ago, you’d have to be extraordinarily forgetfully of your “extensive” reading of him.

Woof!

This just isn't even worth responding to. You clearly can't get the point I'm making, so I'll give up.

You said that twice in this thread. Meanwhile Peterson is selling books by the

millions which means people, and not just men, are interested in what he has to

say. Keep on open mind, you might learn something. Simple as that.

Oprah Winfrey sells books by the millions as well. The Bible continues to be one of the biggest selling books on the planet. It doesn't mean we're obliged to take them seriously. The biggest selling book here is a cookbook - does that mean we should look to it for theoretical insights.

I was just thinking about this whole argument that I don't know what I'm talking about because I don't know 'enough' about Peterson's work ... I'm not sure what 'enough' is, but I guess I'll know when I get there. However, you, Que, et al love tossing around terms like 'toxic masculinity' or 'hegemonic masculinity', yet I'm pretty sure you haven't actually read any of the people who actually developed the concepts ... or could even readily name them without resort to Wikipedia or Google. If you did, you'd get that 'masculinity' =/= 'toxic masculinity'.

I saw this the other day and thought of you. (Hopefully it'll work - my capacity for inserting images seems remarkably tenuous.)

Guessing again tsk tsk tsk!

I thought you'd remember correctly now? If you did you would know it's more a question of compelled speech rather than free-speech.

Woof!

We could probably say the same about the dick who started the whole 'vaccines cause autism' debacle.

You realise 'being cited' can easily include people who are citing his work as part of their critiques?

A citation is a reference to a published or unpublished source.[2] More precisely, a citation is an abbreviated alphanumeric expression embedded in the body of an intellectual work that denotes an entry in the bibliographic references section of the work for the purpose of acknowledging the relevance of the works of others to the topic of discussion at the spot where the citation appears.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citation

How deep are you intending to go with this hole exactly?

Woof!

Woof!

I have utterly no interest in looking up whether Peterson's been claiming that his right to free speech has been attenuated or not. If you or Bot or anyone else wants to make that argument, then provide some actual evidence yourself. Peterson's drivel seems to be pretty readily available on the interweb, packaged into readily digested 'inspirational memes'.
