Endless Ends

Now that you've recovered the item from it's "perfect hiding place", where will you hide it next? . . . are shovels required? And where will you hide the "hint" guaranteed to help you find it next time?
It is disturbing how well you know me. 😂

I think that hw, NRJ and I have you figured out by now (them better than me).

Best Wishes for the New Year's celebration and 2024.

Oh, and may your New Year's resolutions last one day longer than your best intentions ! :D

February full moon, the Snow Moon (also known as the Micro Moon with its greatest distance from Earth) . . . Saturday night, 2/24, but the best window for viewing will be Friday night.

"Its significance lies in the purity, renewal, and potential for new beginnings it symbolizes . . . This full moon appears to be all about rebirth and letting go of things that no longer serve the best interests of zodiacs, ushering in new beginnings . . . Critical information may be shared in the surrounding days, and this is the prime time to make changes to your daily habits and routine."

I did not know this!

My eclipse plans, you ask? Finalized. 🕶️

No thanks to myself. I started looking months ago. And, naturally, got sidetracked. (As I do.)

Fortunately a friend of a friend has provided me with far more suitable housing than I could have ever found for myself.

(Good thing, too. Rental prices are in the thousands. Per night!!)

Four minutes of total eclipse!

Can you dig it? :p

Ray Bradbury.

I recently discovered he wrote detective fiction!

Naturally I had to read. I’m not entirely sure how I’d rate the experience. The vivid imagery he conjures and heavy description still rule, but they’re almost a little too surreal. Plot is like an afterthought. Or maybe a suggestion. 😂

Anyway, the reason I bring them up, is my rabbit hole plunge discovered that not only was Ray Harryhausen Bradbury’s great friend, but he’s a character in the second detective novel!

(As are some other Hollywood notables.)

A Graveyard For Lunatics (1990).

We’ve talked so much Harryhausen in the thread I thought it worth mentioning.

This is cool. I don't know that I remembered that there were two creatures, environment dependent. I wonder why they didn't use him for both? 🤔

Gosh. He was 93 when he passed.

I was surprised to see that Bradbury was 91 and Ray Harryhausen was 92!

Does anyone live that long anymore?

We are living in effete times, people. :p

Ricou was relatively short. An amazing swimmer and could hold his breath forever, but above water he wasn’t as intimidating. So they used the much taller Ben Chapman above water.

You can tell the difference because Ricou’s suit had two set of abdominal plates and Ben’s had three. 👨‍🎓

Ah. That would make sense.

The abdominal plates, too, except in the picture above he appears to have . . . four?

*heads to google*

The Ray Bradbury detective novel I just mentioned might have been short on expected detective norms, but it was incredibly rich as a peek into Hollywood history.

The narrator speaks of seeing King Kong and and it's lasting impact on himself and his friend's (Harryhausen) work. Which, I kinda loved.

(^The crowd looks so excited.)

I had the pleasure of that experience several years ago up here in the mtns of GA . . . awesome !

p.s. nice to see you back (y)
The annular we had last year was interesting. It lasted long enough to effect a significant drop in temp. Something I don't recall experiencing with previous eclipses.

I'm curious if the total eclipse (similar duration) will be even colder.

Creature trivia . . .

What happened to the original Creature from the Black Lagoon costume?

The costume pieces were discarded by Universal after production had finished on the three films (Creature from the Black Lagoon and its two sequels) and were later recovered from the studio's dumpster by a janitor, who thought the ensemble would make a good Halloween costume for his son.
