Endless Ends

Really feeling for anyone in the PNW. Texas climbs into the 100s every year, but their housing and infrastructure aren’t built for the heat. Too, too reminiscent of what happened here with the recent freeze. :(

Something labeled a hazmat suit is on its way to my house. Note the term is used loosely. (I mean, we’re not talking PPE for a BSL-4 lab.)

Buuuuut a hazmat suit nonetheless. šŸ˜‚

I feel like I should be keeping some kind of pastoral diary.

That *pastoral* is for you, Trekka. In case you happen to be lurking. :p

It seems to have been mow weekend!

I'm curious as to the manner of how your yard is un-flat? A ravine bi-sects part of my property, resulting in some dips and valleys that the Zero still manages, albeit slowly.

Eh. Somehow kittening tangled itself into my DD/lg. In abeyance these days, hence the ex. A permanent thing I would have said until this evening. While driving a tiny - so tiny! - white kitten dashed across the road, right in front of me! The kitten zigged. I zagged. I very nearly landed in a ditch and, I'm pretty sure, had a mild myocardial event. But the kitten was okay, which is what counts.

Anywho. That was a long-winded way to say I'm big on signs so I may revisit the kitten thing, just to ensure all is resolved.

TMI? No doubt, but it seems I am feeling chatty. :D

I think it must be my near death-by-kitten experience.

:p

Sorry, I only just now noticed this post. My yard is very rough and has exposed tree roots along the front portion of it. But the kicker is a very steep pitch or hill going down into the backyard. It's steep enough that a Z-turn would create difficulties. So, no ZT until I'm able to get a landscaper out here with a dozier and two or three dump truck loads of topsoil.

I love how they told Texans to keep it "around 78". Like no one should do when it's 100 out. It's almost like ERGOT doesn't work or something. 🤣

Do not. Even. Get. Me started.

First the freeze scandal, now they're doing rolling blackouts and advising the public to look for signs of heat exhaustion. I mean, seriously?

IT HAS YET TO GET HOT

Have we even broken 95 Fahrenheit?

If we bust a 100 for a month and counting I'll consider, consider, getting excited.

ERCOT can bite me.

Gotcha.

Welp. What a week. All I wanted to do this afternoon was settle in with some carefully curated antique horror and a single crisp glass of the very brutest of brut champagne.

As I say….

Alas, several acres in long overdue need of mowing gave me the side-eye. Being marginally responsible I put in three hours.

I have showered, and not sit on the couch with remote in hand. I might even still have the champagne. :p

By carefully curated I mean Hotwords needs to pop in and gift me with a list of classic horror movies that are currently streaming on Netflix, all gloriously specific to my tastes.

Like, immediately.

Because I am a ridiculously and completely unrealistically demanding sort of soul. I mean, that's clear, right? šŸ˜‚

I don’t know about Netflix (I cancelled my subscription) but two movies I’m on the lookout for lately are ā€œSpookiesā€ from 1986 and ā€œFrankenhookerā€ 1990.

I feel like these two are going to be necessary watches.
If you find them streaming let me know. :D

Can't personally vouch for these, Enny, but it's a list to peruse, given your current state . . . :)

You may need popcorn.

Huh. There seems to be a paywall.

Endless_Night. On the job. :D

Today would be the fifth day in a row of mowing. And I’m still not finished. This is what happens to people with a lackadaisical nature.

It’s certainly what happens with three weeks of consecutive rain.

I’d hoped to investigate silvopasturing at some point, but it may need to be sooner rather than later. How on earth do people keep up with the mowing? I’m not talking pristine carpets of grass here either, more in the nature of making sure the area around the house, outbuildings, and entrances are clear.

In spite of spending time in the country as a child, it seems I’m just a city slicker. šŸ˜‚

I’ve been doing some reading.

(Shocker, I know. :p)

New author, P. Djeli Clark. Fantasy. Mostly novellas, though he has a new, full length novel out. His running premise seems to be alternative universes, with a steampunk twist. Turn of the century Egypt and New Orleans. There’s a magical element as well - think Djinn.

His world building is amazing, with a wealth of detail and description. The Egyptian-based books particularly catch my attention. The vocabulary. I find myself googling words right and left. You’d think all that would equal am overblown and flowery style, but it’s not. The writing remains crisp and succinct.

I am a-looking forward to the novel. A Master of Djinn.

Dear Universe,

If I might put in a tiny request. Can you cancel the rain? Just for the upcoming week?

Please? Pretty please? Pretty please with sugar on top?

Respectfully,
A Girl Who Needs to Finish Mowing

😳

So, NRJ, my fellow Texan and all-around nice guy who does not live all that far down the road….

*bats eyes*

Want to come mow?

I kid, I kid!

It's supposed to rain all week, so no bueno. :p
