Endless Ends

There’s this project I’ve been trying to wind up forever. It’s just…completely hair tearing. Long story, which I won’t go into - you’re welcome :p - but a tangential topic is the subject of lying.

So many conversations, trying to nail down a solid set of parameters, with little luck. There seems to be no standard categorization. Colors may even used to delineate types.

Such a weird subject.

I like things neat and tidy.

NEAT AND TIDY.

Maybe you need to make it Irish

Considering the week I am having, maybe two!

Of course, I'd then be hungover for daaaaaaaaaaaays.

(Besides, whiskey is icky. :p)

I expect to back to prime arguing shape by the weekend. Assuming I'm not assimilated anything rabid.

Kahlua then?

I figured. I was trying to tell you that you have no excuses.

Hahaha! You got me.

I will haul my posterior out of bed right now, brave the rabid wilderness to my hipster ride, drive to the gate, drive back to the house because I've forgotten the key to the lock on the gate, drive to….well, wherever the nearest liquor store might be, to find -

- they are closed. :p

Because people keep the weirdest hours out here.

THINGS ARE EVEN CLOSED ON SUNDAY

(I'm living post apocalyptic. I swear.)

I like how you assume you are going to forget the key.

Only store closed in New Jersey on Sundays is Chik-fil-A

I always forget the key. It's a given. 😂

And often my purse, or wallet, or sweater, or phone. Actually, I always forget my phone. :p

Honestly, I did not realize that there are places where it still semi shuts down on Sunday. I have been a city girl for too long….

Oh, goodness. *yawn*

Time for me to hit the hay, SB. Night!

Diving back into Mexican Gothic. Again. I really want to like this book. Really.

Fifth time is the charm! :p

Read the synopsis of Mexican Gothic this morning, Enny . . . and have to wonder whether the experiences of your new abode and surroundings are the root cause of pushing you back to High Place?

Happy schrooming!

^^^ Ha! If only! :p

Gothic horror, haute couture, what’s not to like?

I was expecting it to be spectacular, but…it's not. At least not to me.

It’s not that the writing is bad, it’s not. It starts out well. The hallmarks of a good gothic are present, it just doesn’t read like a gothic. More like magical realism, which is - most definitely - not my favorite.

It’s sooooo slow. By the time it finally picks up near the end I just don’t care. The characters are not engaging. There’s no sense of terror. A couple of plot points bug me. I finally gave up and skipped to the end, which - bearing in mind that I’ve read numerous gothics - held no surprises.

Eh. Disappointing. I SO wanted to be amazed. The author, Sylvia Moreno Garcia, is an interesting soul. In addition to her writing she runs something of an indie press on the side that specializes in weird fiction.

This, The Route of Salt and Ice, looks promising. Written in 1998 by José Luis Zárate, it’s a reimagining of Dracula’s voyage. A sort of gothic, erotic, queer horror.

There’s a sample read at the bottom of this page.

Bucket List.

What is the list of things you hope to never do called?

Vent Pipe + Multi-postion ladder + 2nd story + Drain snake = whatever that list is called.

I am paying for my sins. All of them. AT ONCE.

😂😳😂

On top of all else I've been reading lately I've been delving into silvopasture. I think I might be read out for a bit.

Well, excepting Murderbot. I am saving the most recent novella for a particularly bad day. Because -

MURDERBOT

Ahem.

- So, Masterclass? I hear good things.

- Back to bad sci-fi/horror movies? Soothing.

- Transport to Barsoom and start a torrid affair with a tentacled blue alien? Eh, who has the energy. :p
