The Bits and Bobs Update Podcast…errr…make that Litcast. :p

-Is it common knowledge that most hospitals (or whatever) do not stock the various indigenous antivenoms? News to me.

-Admittedly I haven't flipped on the radio while driving in years, but when was FM taken over by Christianity? Country, pop, talk, and (I swear) heavy metal.

-I am, right now, this very minute, being auditorily assaulted by frogs.

Two of these things are highly disturbing and should be addressed at the level of the Texas legislature.

The other one is just annoying. 😂

That was good. I’m always amazed at how simple a story can be. If I tried to write that same story it would have been twelve thousand pages and made no sense. :D

I like it, and I totally agree on the short story thing. How do people write those things? I can't even manage a short post! 'Tis a mystery.

Those Vampire Judge short stories I posted a while back where also worth the read.

You know, if you didn't read them. :p

I wish your legislature would focus on those instead of some other things

I wish they'd meet more than every other year.

Back in my sprout days, I thought that was cool. These days it just seems….inadequate. Besides, considering they're only in session another 6/7 days I don't see antivenom and Christian radio taking top priority.

Harbinger Down. (2015).

(Yeah, yeah. The Thing obsessed, I know.)

The special effects company that worked on The Thing prequel (2011) was most upset to find their work replaced post-production with CGI. The kerfuffle led to an indie funded through Kickstarter of all things! It's actually a homage to 80s horror flicks. Moderate reviews, but what do the critics know. I liked it. :cattail:

I'm sure you've seen this, HW, but if you haven't, it's very Thing reminiscent!

(I never saw the 2011 prequel for fear of it being just too, too, terrible.)

Texas does things differently, I will just say. 😶

That's one of the reasons I'm so special! ;)

Eh. I've lived in several states. I've yet to find one that isn't crazier than a bag of snakes. *shrug*

But…if there's one where ALL the hospitals stock indigenous antivenom I may be moving. 😂

#goals

I think I've given up goals this year. I'm moving in with the frogs.

THAT WON'T SHUT UP

Is there an amphibian god? I will make a deal. Blood sacrifices aren't out of the question. 😂

Sounds as if a frog legs cookout might be in order.

Hell to the No.

THERE ARE SNAKES OUT THERE

I was fully on board with the rat snake, even when it entered the house. But what will from here forward be termed the Copperhead Incident cured me of any and all tolerance for reptiles of the limbless variety.

No leaving the house at night to procure frog legs.

No leaving the house at night period.

Maybe no leaving the house at all without AN AXE.

I might still be working through the trauma. 😂

I’ve never heard of this movie, but I am curious now. I also had no idea they replaced practical effects with cgi for the 2011 movie!!! The cgi was terrible in that movie, why would they do that?!!!!! The only good part of that mess was looking at Mary Elizabeth Winstead—she gave me a thing ;)

More importantly, I recently found out that Who Goes There? is a shortened story from the original Frozen Hell, recently discovered manuscript, recently published and coming to a mailbox near me next week.

Enny, I've got a sound trade for you . . . up here in the N. GA mountains, the hills are alive with the sound of . . . the X Brood of the 17-year cicadas!! Started about two weeks ago . . . begins at dawn and continues into the mid-afternoon . . . still have 2-4 weeks left in the cycle. :(

Well, at least something good came of it. :p

I feel like there should be hefty fines for bad remakes. Hefty ones. Hefty.

Ooh! Ooh! I've been meaning to order that puppy. We will be expecting a review, tout suite!

In a thread near mine.

My great-grandmother had a thing for him!

At least, I think.

Oh! I realize this sounds perverse, but I would LOVE to hear them. Such a rarity of an event. I remember hearing cicadas often as a child, when spending time with the g-grandmother. (She of Dan Rather fame. :p)

Huh. I haven't heard them in years. Decades, even. I wonder why….

Now, Enny, how could anyone call you perverse? ;):D

Oh, and btw, Happy Super Blood Moon tonight!!!

In other read-y news:

House of Leaves
: I’m only about halfway through, so will keep my thoughts to myself other than to say it’s a most curious book. I would love to know what prompted Danielewski to such a convoluted format.

Dark in Death: The usual fare for an Eve Dallas offering. This was a quick, enjoyable read, but the ending felt like an information dump. Not Robb’s best, imo, but considering this was the 46th in the series I’m surprised at any level of freshness. 😂

Lake Silence: New author for me, that I just happened to pick up on sale. Marketed as dark fantasy but flirted with horror. (I guess that’s where the “dark” comes in.) It was…different. I’ve never seen anyone do fantasy in quite that way. A couple of weak points in story flow made me wonder if Anne Bishop was a debut author, but, nope. She has several books and series in play. Not the strongest plotting, and there were characters filled with cliche, but the read still managed to be enjoyable. And strange, and offbeat, and vaguely creepy though I'm not entirely sure why. Worth further exploration.

Oh! Oh!

There should be a THE THING LEGO SET!!

Or maybe not. I would probably pee myself with excitement. Nobody wants that. :p
