Election Night . . .

And attempted by the right.

Thank you.

I've already posted about how Obama voters in many states got phone calls telling them to vote on Wednesday, because the polls were too crowded today. We fear dirty tricks because they fucking HAPPEN.

I want to do things from at least three different Lit categories with CNN's Melissa Long.

Do I have to mention that Nancy is a republican?

No. 2, Constitutional Amendment

Florida Marriage Protection Amendment
This amendment protects marriage as the legal union of only one man and one woman as hunband and wife and provides that no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized. The direct financial impact this amendment will have on state and local government revenues and expenditures cannot be determined, but it is expected to be mminor.

Just checked the status of this one. It passed by a huge margin.

I just noticed Chaves County in New Mexico is heavily for McCain. That's where Roswell is.

I guess we know where our alien overlords stand. ;)

Remark heard on CNN: "If Obama wins, it will do more to repair the U.S.'s worldwide standing than anything else in history."

I have to agree.

Virginia is still up in the air – the polls closed 3 hours ago. Out of nearly three million votes cast, McCain is up by about 13,000 votes. I voted in Virginia this morning.

I was in line (a 90 minute line) behind a woman who was holding a place for who was probably her grandmother. It made me cry, watching this old woman shuffling up to the voting box, being helped by two younger women. As she stood there slowly navigating through the voting computer, I wondered at her life. She probably had faced many barriers to voting in her lifetime, she is Southern and black and would have come of age in perhaps the ‘40s. Made me think of the kids in Lynchburg, encountering a fellow student who claimed he was for Obama. They asked him “Why? Aren’t you a Christian?”

I just returned from dinner, but neither my parents nor me could really enjoy the food, even. We don't have a TV either so my dad's downstairs on the laptop and I'm upstairs, both refreshing CNN and MSNBC and ABC.

Ballot Initiatives in Massachusetts

From the Boston Globe:

1. Massachusetts voters today approved a ballot initiative to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana, making getting caught with less than an ounce of pot punishable by a civil fine of $100. The change in the law means someone found carrying as many as dozens of marijuana cigarettes will no longer be reported to the state’s criminal history board.

2. Massachusetts voters today embraced a ballot question to end greyhound racing in the state, rejecting track owners’ arguments that the ban would cost jobs at a time of economic hardship in favor of protecting dogs from harm.

The contentious ballot question passed amid emotional ad campaigns by both sides. Proponents used images of sad-eyed greyhounds that they say are caged inhumanely and raced to injury while opponents put the spotlight on the track employees who would put out of work if the ballot passed.

"It's not fair to the dogs," said Dulce Fajardo, 41, a Roxbury Democrat who voted for the ballot question. "I love animals. And for me this is something cruel. They can't defend themselves so we have to do it for them."

CNN's reporting that 2 McCain aides have said that they "...don't see a path to victory."

Watch the BBC online; it auto-refreshes.

Of course. This one's a no-brainer, and it's yet another reason why so many of us voted for him.

Rob, I think it's totally awesome that you're following this so closely.
Canada's well being depends on the U.S. So I have to.

Plus election trends there arrive here soon after. Our current Prime Minister wears knee pads when he visits Dubya.

Hope there means hope here.
