Remember how he was hounded to impeachment and forced to accept censure, by the same people who just turned out in record numbers to give George W. Bush a hearty "attaboy" for a job well done?

I'm a teensy bit bitter right now. It's not the expected loss that bothers me, it's that they didn't even have to steal it this time. People who think this clump of algae is doing a good job, for reasons they can't verbalize, walk among us. "At least Bush took action!" "At least the dog threw up on the tile and not the Persian carpet."

My personal choice in 2008 would be for no other party to even field a candidate. Why should anyone else try to clean up the mess these people will have made by then, and be blamed for not being able to fix it asap? The Republicans have what no political power has ever had in the U.S.: carte blanche.

You want to outlaw meatless meals? Pave the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge? Mandate an SUV in every garage? Go for it. You've got the necessary majority in both houses of Congress, a president who'll be happy to scribble his X on the bill, and if there's a challenge to the constutitonality of your Meatless Meals Ban, just wait a few days for poor Justice Rehnquist to give up the vigil and you can appoint his replacement accordingly. You gave us John Ashcroft and Ahmad Chalabi. Let's see what you can do with absolute power.

I was touched by the president's speech. He's going to Work to Earn our Trust. He's violated our trust with impunity for 3 and a half years. It's generous of him to worry about it now.

I think we will have a woman as pesident sometime in the next twenty years but first she will be V. P. She may take over on the death of the president or she may wait eight years and then be elected on her own. Hillary comes to mind first but there are others.

Since you mention it, a reality show like "The Apprentice" is worth considering as a substitute for elections. Six weeks, six episodes. Donald Trump as host. I would have suggested Brokaw, but I lost all respect for him the third time he called this debacle "an affirming experience." Affirm this, white boy.

Barack Obama impresses the hell out of me every time I see him. I think 2008 might be too soon (not to mention that if the Republicans run McCain in 2008, he's going to be hard for anyone to defeat), but as a 2012 or 2016 candidate, he has a serious shot at things. Again, maybe he should be a VP first. Of course, not being American, I have no say in such things, but there's a guy you would want leading the free world.
