I feel your pain. For whatever reason, it does seem like the trolls are swarming during this contest. But remember, the path to the bottom of the pile is long and treacherous. Before you know what's hit your score, some folks will drop fives on you and Laurel will have cleaned out some of the scum and bingo, your score will go from competitively bad to ho-hum mediocre.

You are so right, my friend. The next three were fives! (I only know 'cos I was watching, ) I think I'll give up on vote-watching and look forward to a mid-table finish at the end of the contest. I get a bit obsessive about a newly-posted story, watching it like a new-born, hovering until it finds its feet. Silly, I know. . .

No doubt that's true, sirhugs. But mediocrity is me. For example, Towering Passion, the First Time story that joined the contest ranks back on 3/30 still has only 16 votes and 2500 views. The score is a respectable, but non-competitive 4.56 score..

My other entry, Handling Things in Central Park, which showed up on the seventh in Romance, is kinda, in some ways, sorta doing better. Like its co-conspirator in mediocrity, it has only 16 votes but about twice the views but with a very ho-hum score of 4.38.

With that, this mournful mouldering mound of meaningless mediocrity meanders away mumbling morosely.

Give it up, JoKo. A few 5 votes aren't going to be mathematically significant. I got over 500 votes in a week on my story for the Valentine's Day contest and it looks like this one will do about the same.

Current tally: 2.87 @ 115 votes.

Okay so here I am reading away and I have found that I am liking many of the stories... when I am done reading I will post about my faves... but anyways....

Ummm how come so many turned off the PCs... it makes it darned hard to post them or even comment on the stories...???

Ten votes is an important milestone. With 10 votes or more the rating of the story is visible to other people and, if good enough, shows up in the 'Top Lists'. That's when the blue meanies start attacking stories or other people start reading it with high expections.

By a fluke one of my stories was No. 1 of all stories on Literotica because the first 10 votes were all 5s. That changed within a couple of hours and it is now about 4.60 which is probably all it deserves.

Over time the rating of almost all stories drop a few points. Any story with over 50 votes rated 4.75 or above is likely to be well worth reading.

Well, it's up to 17 votes now (I think that's right) and has risen to a 4.65. When it's a story that I don't think is really great, then I don't care much if the score plummets, but I really liked the way that this one ended up, so I hated to see the rating drop.

I know what it's like to be voted down because you are on the top list. One of my Novel chapters was number one for a bit and then got knocked off. Several of those chapters are still hanging in the lists though.

I have an erotic horror story that was the highest rated in that category for those submitted in the month of February. Since that was announced, it has been hit a few times as well.

Why is it that ratings are so important to alot of us when we know that people vote fraudently on them?
