Get your thinking hats on.

Get your fingers dirty in the soil.

Think green and agricultural.

Chew on a straw while saying "Oo-Arr".

Drink cloudy rough Cider and chase a willing milkmaid or whoever suits your sexual orientation.

Remember sheep, wombats and goslings.

The Earth Day Contest is upon us. Og will lose again but someone has to.

It is not the winning that counts but the taking part.

If you haven't tried a themed contest before - do this one. You will get more views, more votes, more comments (more anonymous crap) and more exposure for all your work than any number of ordinary posted stories.

Hot, humid and dusty? A pretty woman chasing an injured gosling across the Arizona desert, while being chased by a wombat, who's being chased by a herd of stampeding sheep....

...wait, sorry. Just realized I was describing Minsue's average weekend. Wish I could've been more helpful, Og. I'm sure you'll think of something fun. I actually got an idea for the contest and have never entered before. Glad you posted this, one more reason to take the plunge.

I'm not quite sure how that sounds. Care to post an audio clip of that one? :D

:D :D I hadn't even seen this when I posted the offer. Make it 700 words, lucky, and you've got yourself a prize!

Og,

Can we have some proper rules for last placing this time?
Does the vote count have to make it eligible? Or is it just the lowest score regardless of how many votes? What about reads?

I'll throw my hat in the ring for last place as my premise is rather thin and should guarantee a few 1s. And I promise to read as many of the entrants as I can this time round (and vote accordingly hehe).

I love a man with confidence.

It's almost enough to make me enter just to try to steal last place from your clutches.

Possible Rules...

Order for coming last:

Lowest voted rating for a genuine attempt at a story multiplied by number of votes if less than 25 divided by 25.

So - if rating is 3.00 but only 12 votes the score would be

3.00 x 12 / 25 = 1.44

If rating is 3.00 but more than 25 votes, the rating stays the same.

I suggest ignoring number of reads except as a tie breaker when least number of reads would *win*.

Any other ideas?

Og

my story is ready
there is an ideas thread on the Story Ideas forum.

I want the 'most average' award.

Bell shaped curve indicates that most of us will be in the frame for 'most average'.

It takes skill, dedication and hard work to come last.

I've just finished editing my entry and i'll be very surprised if it gets 25 votes... I've set it in the outer hebrides, with sheep references, an obligatory fuck in the rain and a dog with the instincts of Skippy the bush kangaroo. I was going to add a bit of gaelic to it, purely because it gave me a kick to think of the phlegm covered monitors as people tried to pronounce the words out loud :D, but apart from Seumais, my cheesy hero, i didnt bother.

I have the distict feeling my story is going to languish at the bottom of the pile, but i loved writing it :) .

Wouldn't least number of reads equal a better voting score?

Og,

Do you think Non-Erotic stories should be allowed to compete? After all, when you consider that categories traditionally low, scarce votes, NE stories would seem to have an unfair advantage.

Okay, first dumb question of the thread: What the hell is Earth day? I mean, is there a Mars, or Venus day too? And what does it involve as everything we write except SF takes place here on Earth.

Quick question...

Is it ok to submit my part of a chain story for the Earth Day competition?

I've just about finished writing my bit of the Zodiac Girls chain story. It's Sagittaruis, and one of the traits of a Sagittarian is they like to do stuff outdoors. It's actually quite a dark erotic horror (although it didn't start off that way). Its setting is Stonehenge, and the Winter Solstice ritual.

Can anyone advise if this would be admissable for entry into this competition?

Thanks!

Lou :rose:

Earth Day is proclaimed by the UN to celebrate environmentalism. School kids do projects. Service clubs clean parks. Hippies smoke dope in the fresh air at protest concerts ( Peter Paul and Mary need the work). Industry goes on polluting.
