'I'd love to,' Mason thought, although he knew that was the drugs talking. An overwhelming excitement grew within Mason. He was in a situation that seemed too good to be real. As if this were some kind of movie and they were the stars. He couldn't believe that he'd be the one responsible for nursing Cara back to health.
He helped Cara into bed, and slid the shoe off her good foot, giving her big toe a little tug as he did so. Mason hadn't set the shoe down on the floor just yet. He loved the warm feel that remained behind. His mouth was watering at the thought of smelling Cara's shoes...and hopefully her bare feet if he played his cards right.
Mason held her shoe behind his back as he walked up to Cara's head, making sure she was propped up good enough for a nice rest. He knew the morning would be hell for her when she woke up and the pain came back. But he was lucky enough to be there for her. "Good night, Cara," he said as he gently caressed her cheek.
Mason left Cara alone in her bed and went to the living room. Mason retired on the couch, holding Cara's shoe to his nose.
