Dragon Riders... Interest thread, Casting, OOC

you and myself both... see this is why we should wait until Showdolly and everyone else is on. Questions will be answered, lol.

I'm confused...Is there a particular order, should I wait until Brom and Eragon are done, or can I just post as Durza at any time?

If you have something for Durza that didn't directly intersect him with Brom and Eragon that start writing him. If you want him to jump in and be interacting with them right away than work that out with Tirith and Gladiator before you post.

Yep. ;)

And as for the rest, character bios and all, looks great to me!! YAYNESS! Thank you all for playing! I think it will be a fine thread. :)
I went to the library today to take out the first novel, but it is already out. LOL I placed a hold on it.... They're supposed to be due in not more than 3 weeks, but I'm not sure how long it's been out. (The 'estimated wait period' said unknown... so I guess it's possible that it's late already!)

Thanks again ya'll! See you on the thread!

Do dragons actively do magic? Cast spells or whatever? Or do they only make their humans be able to do so?

hmp! I don't even know. LOL I think it'd depend your definition of 'magic'....

From the movie, Saphira can let Eragon see through her eyes... she has zoom capabilities, heat sensing sight, all sorts of stuff. They can communicate telepathically with their riders... fire when they're old enough.... I don't remember her doing any magic on her own other than that though. I wouldn't mind some sort of thing, long as it's reasonable to the storyline.

Or you can wait for our Brom to answer properly. LOL

answer to said question,
a dragon's main magic is the way she adds to a rider's own magical energy. She is able to lend her rider strength in certain spells, and so forth, because each spell takes a certain amount of energy to cast. It also conveys near imortality I.E. a much extended lifespan on the rider.
Dragons are capable of doing their own magic, as when Saphira turned Broms tomb to diamond, but it is not easy for a dragon to control the power, and it is not always available to them as it is to a rider. Dragons do breathe fire after I want to say five months

and as for the seeing through a dragon's eyes, that is actually an adaptation of a magical word in the ancient language, spoken by the rider. So a dragon cannot convey this sight on anyone, only a magic user, and most likely only her dragonrider.

I can elaborate on the rider's magic and how it works if anyone would like to know, or else it will just come out in the IC thread.

thanks!

hope that helped.

of course what I say can be adapted I'm sure, but I thought I would give what I believe to be the answer as according to the film and novels.

Sounds good! thanks for answering!

And, erm, it's your post on the IC thread.... Saphira and Eragon are waiting to see where Brom will lead them. ;)

Thanks gladiator, I can work with that. Actually it makes it easy for me, since I don't have to figure out how magical combat between Glacier and Galyeon would work.

Also, I rented the movie! Now I remember why I didn't read the books when they came out (yet another Tolkien clone with an evil overlord and an orphan farm boy hero, ugh) but the movie's characters and special effects were pretty and the genericness of the worldbuilding makes it really easy to roleplay in.

you're welcome,
and I'm aware its my post
:(

but I was asleep most of the day
I had a rough weekend, and will be up to posting peak again soon!
thanks

LOL No prob, just wanted to make sure you knew. ;)

Looks like I'm going to have a, erm, "rough" week, so I'm totally with ya.

Anyone whose characters have not come into play yet - you are welcome to post on the IC in your own little world.... IE, Arya in captivity, Durza doing evil crap LOL (you two could even have a little subplot going like our white dragon and mage do ATM) Caela can randomly insert "impatient dragon thoughts" as you wish. LOL I assume we'll be finding you soon... up to you and our Brom really. (Brom is so much easier to type than gladiator. LOL)

funstuff!

I really need to invest in an air mattrace, I just spent two nights sleeping on my own floor, and encase no one has done it, tile floor is freaking uncomfortable.
and no prob if you reffer to me as brom Gladiator, anything you wish. Just not late for supper  :p

armphid - I'm having a lot of fun playing 'offended dignity'. :D I'm thinking that maybe we should have our characters get in some sort of a deadlock - the mage can't force the dragon to bond to him, but the dragon can't get away from the mage. So, Glacier agrees to accompany Galyeon back to his stronghold or wherever and 'think about it'. Kind of like a grudging engagement or courting phase, during which Glacier takes human form and they discover they're both interested in a sexual relationship... what do you think?

Other questions for the Eragon experts - can two dragons talk psychically to each other? If so, maybe Caela could have conversations with random dragons as well as just being impatient. That would help develop what dragon culture is like, how many dragons there are, where they stand politically, etc.

And showdolly, maybe you should put a link to the IC thread in the first post of this thread. :)

traditionally, dragons can only use telepathy once they have changed into their adult size, as when Eragon threw saphira into the air and she came back and could speak telepathically to him
but, I love the idea that they could speak from the egg to other dragons there is nothing in the books that says it is not possible.
so I say go for it

next, a list of the remaining dragons and their locations

Galvetorix's black, forget the name, with him, dominated, forced to serve as the king's mount
Gledre (forget how its really spelled, I can look it up) the great ancient gold, who is crippled, and is one of the elves greatest, most heavily guarded secrets, that there is a dragon and rider still alive in elvin lands.
Thorn: red dragon in the egg, will hatch for mourtagh
Saphira, blue mount of Eragon

Unknown egg: In the possession of galvetorix, known to be male

the rest are able to be made up by us, such as midnight and glacier

hope again that helps
I don't have time to make an IC post now, will do so later
thanks

It sounds good to me. It also makes it more of a question if they will bond, even if they do become lovers/fuck buddies/what have you. Also, it gets things moving past the set-up, which is fun and all, but I want to get to the actual plot.

I'll get my next post up in a few hours.

If they did become lovers, it would probably make Glacier want to bond Gayleon to himself because the lifespan of a bonded human is much longer, and who wants to see their lover grow old and die in a few years? But he's probably have to angst over it a little first.

Not sure what 'the real plot' consist of lol - I would have guessed the tension between our characters, buy I'm having fun so I'm content to go a long with the ride. :) I do know that I have a tendency to be a slow, long-winded writer so if I'm making a scene take too long just let me know and I'll get on with it lol.

I've no problem with taking time with scenes, believe me. In fact, if I seem to be trying to move too fast, let me know. I guess I'm just looking forward to their actually meeting and the interaction that will come with that.

It was an interesting challenge to think of a way out of that situation! ;) I was originally thinking of a more passive equal stalemate, but I think this is more interesting, since it balances force against principle, and clever planning against being in tune with one's instincts. It also puts Glacier in the weaker position, since his oath was obviously a last-ditch defense, while Galyeon can still do anything other than attack Glacier - that's good because it should lead naturally to Glacier accompanying Galyeon back to his stronghold or whatever. (BTW please have Galyeon introduce himself so I can use his name instead of just calling him the mage, thanks. ;) )

I dunno if you're a Pride and Prejudice fan, but I am looking forward to lovely Austen-esque banter between them once they can't physically attack each other. :cathappy:

Sorry to all for my delayed response - there will be a couple of days each week when I'm likely to not be online. My husband works nights, and the nights he's off (Tues and Weds) I don't normally get online. This week has just been especially tiring, so I took an extra night. LOL I'll always be back though, and thanks for carrying on the plot with/without me! LOL

Haven't caught up on the Glacier/Galyeon subplot yet... plan to soon! Kudos to the two of you for working out your own thing! YAY!

To our Durza and Arya - if you two would like to start a subplot you're more than welcome to do so. We know that Arya is captive to Durza, and that soon Eragon, Saphira, Brom, and Midnight will head toward the two of you in order to rescue Arya. (She comes to him -Eragon- in a vision... when really it's a trick of Durza's to lure him there.) So if you two would enjoy a bit of bondage play... go for it! ;)

Thanks to you all - this seems to be shaping up quite well! It's a great read!

Yall I know I am supposed to be posting and to be honest, its just been really strange about here. My work schedule wont let me post as often as before and I apologize to those in the thread and to you Dolly. I feel almost as if I let you down. So tonight, Im catch up reading your thread and hopefully, I will have some type of catch up post before the weekend is out.

hehehe no worries SC - at least not from me. Your important time in the story isn't all that soon, and I just thought you and our Durza may enjoy some playing before we were able to get to you guys.
Might PM him, and make sure he's still with us. LOL Or... Durza... post please?? ;)

Anyway, whenever you're ready SC is fine. I'll let you know for sure if your part of the story is soon in arriving and we've not seen you yet. :)

Sorry for the wait on my post.

Please, if the rest of you need to pass us (Brom and Midnight specifically) you're welcome to do some simple NPCing of the next morning's voyage etc. (The two of you might need to do more talking? A walk would do well for that - the two new lovers will probably do some flirting and hanging back to give themselves, and you two, some privacy.... Just an idea there.) When our scene is done we can jump to wherever you are in time.

Life's been busy this week and will stay that way through next weekend! I'll be here when I can and post as long and time-worthy of posts as I can manage! Sorry for the holdup!

PS - Finally picked up the book from the library yesterday. Will begin reading it this week! yay!
