Dragon Riders... Interest thread, Casting, OOC

haha I haven't read the books myself, I've seen the movie, and nothing on this board is perfect, we're going to spin the thread any way we can, so if your interested then pick a role you'd be interested in, and join in! ;)

I would agree that you need not have read the book or seen the movie to play
I would recommend Durza being played by someone who knows a little about the world and a shade themself. But if someone wants to play him and does not know much
I would be happy to tell he/she what I know on the subject
thanks

Well, I seriously think I would be bad ad it because I don't know the setting, but if you guys and gals don't care... could I be a gay male dragon who wanted a human lover?

I'm willing to play Durza. I've read both the books several times. And love the Shades.

You're welcome to the role - seeing you're a newbie I'd like to emphasize that this is a KEY role and if you're not certain you'll be sticking around, then please consider a lesser role (even if you wanted to be part of the shade still etc). If you'll be around then you're more than welcome!! Glad to have someone who has seen/read in that particular role!!!

SunandShadow - great to see you around!!
I don't guess I'd necessarily mind such a role... but you'll have to make certain that any of the males playing would be willing to RP it with you. KWIM? I've seen the majority of players leave a thread over m/m RPing....

Male RPers - would any of you be willing to RP this role with Sun?

If not, hon, I'd love to have you think up something else and stick with it!! Yes, it's not really one that you'll have to have seen the movie. I linked the wiki article in my first post, and if you read just the first paragraph or two of the plot you'll have more of an idea of what's going on than you even really have to have.... Basically, think Lord of the Rings for the setting - very green, lots of wooded areas and streams... older world style.
HTH and I hope you stick around and find a role that works for you!!! Would love to have another dragon somewhere.... Thanks for posting!

Thank you Dolly for allowing me the opportunity to show off my talents as a fantasy writer. I am in the process of reading Eragon and have seen the movie. I know there will be limited interaction and dialogue with my character with the others but, hoping that the story line is loosely followed, I think I can give your other writers a run for their money.

Cant wait to get started.

WELCOME WELCOME!! Glad to have you here!
Yes, the story line will be fairly loose, and I was thinking Arya might get in some Shade action in the beginning. ;) LOL And Eragon and Saphira do come to rescue her....
Welcome, welcome, so glad you've joined us!! Looking forward to RPing with you once again. :rose:

Looks like we're gathering a pretty decent crew but we still need more badguys or poor Blueside is going to have to control aLOT of NPC's!! lol

LOL Yes I thought that too...

If anyone is willing to RP with Sun, I think the character she intro'd would do well as an evil one... but that kinda depends on who's willing to RP with her. LOL
And if not that one, she might enjoy a different but similar role as an evil. [shrugs] We'll see....

Did you decide on a role, caela? You're still welcome to an evil if you want, too. Even a twist like something... Brom's dragon assigned to him is SECRETLY evil or something....

I'll probably end up taking on a second role, probably evil. We'll see....

Not to correct the GM or anything, but Showdolly, a shade is a being, not a group. A shade is a type of magic user, that is possessed by a dark spirit. Or something to that effect.
thanks

and, as a male, I don't feel comfortable doing m/m. I won't leave the thread if it is present, but I don't feel comfortable writing it at this time.
Thanks again!

I cant wait to get it goin. Im looking forward to everyaspect of the thread itself.
And dolly your welcome. Its been a while. LOL :nana:

Shade Info

I'm a newb on Lit, but I'm not new to RPing, I'll stick around.

Shades are possessed by many dark beings in some cases. Whereas wizards and riders in the books and movie receive their magic from within themselves, Shades draw their power from the spirits. The following is from wikipedia:

Shades: A Shade is a sorcerer/sorceress whose mind and body has been taken over by a spirit when the sorcerer tried to summon a spirit more powerful than him/herself. Shades also possess amazing magical and physical strength.Shades are humans possessed by spirits. They are similar to sorcerers in that both use spirits in order to accomplish magical tasks. Unlike sorcerers, a Shade either gives up his mind and body to a spirit/spirits, or is overpowered by one/several and has no control over his actions. Sorcerers can control spirits.

Shades are immensely powerful, and only three people have ever survived destroying one before: Laetri (an elf), Irnstad (a Dragon Rider), and Eragon. Shades can only be killed by being pierced through the heart; otherwise it will merely reappear elsewhere and return stronger than before; this seems to be inspired by the vampire legends, as vampires can only be killed by a stake driven through the heart.

thanks blueside that's what I was sorta trying to say, but couldn't put it quite so eligantly, lol

I agree, it wouldn't work for me to rp any romantic/sexual role unless someone was willing to rp my love interest. Just to clarify that partner request though, I'd be just as happy with a woman rping a male character as an actual male.

I'm not really sure why anyone would leave a thread just because someone rped m/m. o_O I don't like non-con but I just skip the sex scenes in those posts if that's what someone wants to rp.

If it wouldn't bother anyone, and it's approved, I'd be willing to play Sunandshadow's love interest. We've RP'd together before, though not in a situation where we were paired. If someone else has taken it up, that's fine. Just let me know.

I also don't know a lot about the world/history so I might be a little awkward to start.

now, this is just an idea
but in the second book Mourtagh is bonded to a male red dragon. That could be how the pair come to be?
just a thought...
maybe Mourtagh swares his alegience to galvetorix (spelled that wrong) early in Eragon, rather than in eldest the book.
(If I gave anything away to anyone, I'm sorry, but it was an Idea I couldn't pass up suggesting to them)

I haven't entirely decided. If we get enough bad guys then I'd like to be Brom's dragon but if not then I'll play a bad guy...or maybe do both if you didn't mind multiple characters.

The twist you mentioned is interesting but having read the first book I know just enough of how this little world is supposed to work that I couldn't do it. One of the things about dragons in these stories is that they aren't actually assigned a rider per se. They simply seem to know when they come upon their riders and actually won't hatch until the right person had their eggs.

I'd be very happy with that. :) I went and read some of the wiki articles about the dragons and the characters. I would be fine with being a villain, but not Thorn (Mourtag's dragon) because I don't really like their storyline, and I would feel a lot more confident playing an original character rather than a canon character I didn't know well.

So, here are some ideas. First possibility, maybe my first rider got killed and I have done my grieving (fought off madness? do dragons usually go insane if their riders are killed?) and am now looking for a replacement. That grief/resentment over my first rider's death might be an incentive for me to be a villain. Or second possibility, maybe I have grown up as a wild dragon without a rider (maybe envying the ones with riders a bit but also contemptuous of them), but Armphid your character is a mage who wants the added magical power becoming a dragonrider brings and captures me to force me to bond with him.

From what I have gathered so far, I dont think a vast knowledge of the whole thing is really a big deal. A passing knowledge is basically what she wants. Once we get writing, it will take a life of its own and go where it will. Characters played solely by the books may find themselves lacking. But sunandshadow, I love your idea. That was interesting and very different. KUDOS on originality!!!

Both ideas are appealing, honestly. I wasn't expecting to be a villain but I don't mind playing a bad guy. It'll be an interesting change of pace.

It would also be possible for the two ideas to be combined. The dragon that lost it's rider has gone into the wild to grieve, only to be trapped by my character and offered a chance at recovering what he lost. Just a thought. In the end, whichever variant sunandshadow prefers is fine by me.

according to the books a dragon that loses its rider dies, very pernish of The author McCafrey thief, sorry end rant.
but Perhaps sun and shadows dragon had the will to not die after he lost his rider?

So what ever you decide can be worked out with only slight bending of the rules of the world I'm sure
great ideas
I'm excited
and I want Caela as my dragon :p
Brom is lonely.

Keep it in the IC, you two. Do I have to seperate you? Is that what you want? :p
