Dragon Riders... Interest thread, Casting, OOC

This weekend, we rented and watched Eragon. I'm told it's also a book series. I enjoyed the movie itself, and it made me think of several ways to spin off of it and write a thread based on it, and I'm looking to see if there is enough interest here to start such an RP.

The general story line:

I would like to change it just a little. First, I'd like to not have Brom killed. I like the old guy. I'd like to invent a character to interact with Brom, possibly some all-knowing spirit who helps him as he guides his young apprentice in learning the ways of the dragon riders. Of course, our young Aragon himself will need to be 18 instead of 17 as portrayed in the movie. I'd like an element of evil, but only a touch. The Shade's sexual torture of Arya as prisoner would be a nice side story line. Also, the dragon Saphira would be able to morph into a very human-like state, for the purposes of the thread. I thought it interesting that, in the movie, it was talked about often that Eragon and Saphira needed to "become one" in order that their powers be to their fullest. I thought it fitting that Brom not only teach Eragon his duties as a dragon rider, but that he might also teach Saphira ways to please her rider....

To start -
I'd play Saphira, and possibly one other character, even an invented one, especially if females are needed.

We'd need -
Eragon (m-18)
Brom (m-40s)
Arya (f-early 20s)
Durza (m-shade-30s?)

Later and possibly -
Murtagh (m-late teens): son of the betrayer, loyalty is doubted, but he is true.
Ajihad (m-30s??): king of the Varden, good guy.
Galbatorix (40s??): evil king dude. very evil. also a dragon rider, but that isn't revealed until the end.... He's not seen nor heard from much, but he's the mastermind behind it all.

I think we'll skip having a Roren and a Garrow. Garrow is killed rather quickly, and Roren only appears in the beginning of the movie as well. If there is enough female interest, we may decide to bring Roren into the storyline after all.

Other ideas -
more dragons?
pixies, fairies, other female magical creatures to help along the way
an invented spiritual character to act as a guide for the dragon riders along their way... kind of like the good witch of the north. I'm thinking female.
evil dudes of any sort

I'm looking for writers please - prefer no newbies, and prefer a couple of paragraphs per post. Would like this to be a very magical and fantasy type thread, within the scope of fantastic reality if that makes sense. (Let's not go completely nuts with it, folks....)

I'm SO interested in participating in this thread... I have been thinking about doing one myself but wasn't sure about it. So i'd definatly like to participate, and also to play the character Eragon. I can brush up on the storyline, and to be perfectly honest, I think I could do the character justice. As a side note i'd like to say this is awesome, I love dragons, always have, and so think I will definatly be wanting to participate in this way in one way or another. I will write more of my idea's tonight, but for now I do need to be going to karate, so I will be back tonight. Hopefully you accept me for the part, and I look forewards to writing in it!

I don't believe she has actually read the books, and neither have I to be honest, so I believe what we're going for more is a story based on the movie, which of course puts the books to shame as any movie based off books does... that's just my inital thoughts.

as I have read the books, I agree they are much better
especially the second book,
but, as one who has read the books I know a good deal about the dragonlore in this world, so I would like to throw my bid in for Brom who btw I believe is hundreds of years old, but Yes I would say he looks like he's in his 40's

alright, so far as The books go, there are no more dragons left, except galvetorix's mount, and the elvin magicians ancient gold.
But everyone knows Brom was a rider of a blue female as well, perhaps he receives a new dragon?

but we could alter it and make that third egg female. Perhaps even a different color, is green a feminine color?

lol...Since it doesn't look like this is based on the books I'm not too stressed about the book eggs being male

indeed, and showdolly mentioned her character, which is the main dragon, being able to shift into a human form, which... well makes sense, because dragons of actual lore had always been able to do that. I think with the right people this thread will be awesome, and no offense anyone, jsut that I think we should keep this thread awesome, cause from the energy it's gonn'a be!

Sadly that is the way of it sometimes. Lots of threads die off, the trick is to simply find new games to play lol.

lol...If you can't spell my name properly when you can simply scroll and find it Gladiator then there's a problem.

As for being Brom's dragon I'd consider it though I'll wait to see who else joins up before giving a definitive answer. If we need more bad guys I may well play and evil dragon.

Yay! I'm happy to see the interest here!!

I've written with a few of you and know that those who've expressed interest here are of quality writers! That excites me!!! The only person I'm not familiar with would be StarSailor, but if you've written with caela and she's happy then so am I. LOL

No, I've not yet read the books, but I plan on going to the library and starting the first one this week. My 8yo son i'm sure would be interested in such a story, and only didn't watch the movie because he had lots of new birthday toys to keep him occupied. LOL So I'm going to read it aloud to my kids, and thereby also learning the story....
The Ra'zac (as it's spelled in the Wiki) makes sense to me just to NPC it, unless someone just wants it. Creeps me out to think of sexual encounters with those things though LOL! Also as far as Roren et al goes, I've only seen the movie, and he wasn't in it. If we get enough players, like I said, I'd welcome him written in our little version. We need to make sure we have enough females and that the already established characters are played before we venture there, though.... Honestly, I'd love to have Roren included!!

Gladiator - I'd be glad to have you as Brom! And I like the ideas spouted about him, as far as being thousands of years old, and possibly receiving a new dragon.... Yes, whatever you know of the rest of the story and the dragon lore etc I'd welcome, as long as it fits our slightly-altered story line.

Caela - glad to have you here also! If you can find a place to fit a dragon, I think that would be great! I was hoping to not be the only one.... If you want to be Brom's new dragon, please do! Or we can write it in that it turns out that there are a few protected dragons inside the Varden? You could play Arya and have her also be a transformed dragon.... Or an evil one works also. Whatever you can come up with will be great!

StarSailor - hope you decide to join us!! Just let me know which role interests you!

Thank you Dolly for allowing me the opportunity to show off my talents as a fantasy writer. I am in the process of reading Eragon and have seen the movie. I know there will be limited interaction and dialogue with my character with the others but, hoping that the story line is loosely followed, I think I can give your other writers a run for their money.

Cant wait to get started.

I'd be interested in dragons and riders in general, but I haven't read the Eragon books so I'd be too clueless to participate in a thread based on them.
