That's the proper technique to cause pain with minimal risk of injury. If the balls are allowed to swing freely away, less chance of injury. It's when the ball is compressed that the risk of internal injury is greater. No follow through or you compress it against the body.

I am rather firmly on the RACK side of things, because the ”safe” and especially the ”sane” in SSC are too broad and open to interpretation for me.
