This article says Biden is moving to "reassure" SK by expanding joint military exercises. It got me to thinking -- what difference would it make if the U.S. simply evacuated its forces from the peninsula? NK is a paper tiger. Its people are malnourished and stunted. You can't fight a war with big military parades. Not even Kim Jong-un can be crazy enough to think his regime could survive a war -- with SK alone.

I don't know...did Putin think he would beat Ukraine in 3 days? Did Trump think he is a stable genius? Crazy people think irrationally

Sometimes I think the best thing SK could do would be to dismantle the fences on the southern side of the DMZ and pull all its troops back from there. Let Kim know, "We don't even need this. You are no threat to us. We don't even care that you are there." What could he do?

We tried that strategy once. The North nearly kicked the S Korean government and the US off the peninsula.

In the Korean War, which still hasn't ended - we only have a ceasefire agreement - the North Koreans were losing until China intervened and sent hundreds of thousands of troops to push back the Allies. China still backs North Korea and any conflict would involve them at an early stage.

North Korea has the conventional capability to erase Seoul from the map with artillery.

This is actually a decent idea.

All the more reason for the U.S. to keep out of it, then.

And no American troop presence can change that calculation.

This isn't 1953. Things are different now. Very different.
Yeah, the North has nuclear weapons and it's led by a madman who is allied with China. In the coming war with China, we may need the strategic proximity that South Korea provides.

When will that be happening and what will be the specific causes?

I can predict with 100% certainty that it will occur long before you find a clue.
A clue to what? I don't need a clue to find your failed AZ thread(s) or to know that your garbage about our impending war with China is trash.
