Im just wondering after my little question about scores, I looked at my reads versus votes. The numbers are greatly off. I have one story with over 10,000 views and only 40 votes. So I was wondering do you vote? Why or Why not?

Here I thought this was gonna be a political thread...

Yes, I try to vote on all of the stories I read, especially the ones that really turn me on.

I figure it helps the author and since they took the time to contribute it and I took the time to read it, it's EASY to vote to show a little appreciation.

Yes I do vote. As an author I don't understand why a story gets so many views, and so few votes, and even less feedbacks.

I am bumping this just to see if anyone else would care to reply:p

I too jumped in here thinking this was an opportunity to express frustration with politics. My reply would have been something along the lines of "Yes, I vote, but I'll be @%#$@ if I know why!".

However, getting back to your real question, I usually vote because I've posted my own stories and have a sense for how important that feedback is. I was able to use it to sort of trend whether I was making any improvement from episode to episode. It only takes a second and the authors that opt for voting obviously would like to know.

Voting

Yes I vote. But not on every story that I read. There are categories that I don't even read.

If the story doesn't catch my eye and mind in the first two or three paragraphs, I move on. And this I believe is true for many. One of the reasons the "reads" (which only tell you that the page was clicked, not whether it was read or not) vs the votes is so out of kilter.

I don't vote below a '3'. So most of the stories that I vote on get better scores. The reason is that this is NOT somewhere where we're out for a literary masterpiece. Many people are just sharing experiences or fantasies and I find no need to discourage them. If they continue to write, they will undoubtedly get better. (Except for KM, it must be the drugs.:D )

I have found the 'feedback' to be immensely more beneficial than the 'score'.

Political Question - Yes, It's my right, use it or lose it.

Erotic Stories- Yes, I vote if I finish the story.

A lot of people print off stories & take them to their bed or bathroom rather than masturbate in front of their computer. I guess they don't live alone. These folks tend not to vote, from what I gather from previous threads on this subject.

Sometimes , like in the case of this thread, it turns out to be something other than I expected. If the story is about something that I don't find erotic, but have other emotional reactions to, like say bloodplay, I may decline from voting because I'd tend to judge the fetish rather than the writing.

you know, i haven't voted on any of the stories but reading this thread kinda made me think i should start...so i will...

If I like a story enough to finish reading it, I'll vote.

I seldom finish a story that consists of one paragraph and I've encountered a few of them. Likewise, if the dialog isn't readily identifiable by quotation marks, it's likely history real soon, thus no vote. I also eschew those with with no punctuation or capitalization. Just too hard to read and I'm not looking for a challenge when it comes to erotica.

I vote on every single story i open, even if i don't finish reading it.

If i can't even finish it cuz it's so bad or just plain unbelievable or badly plotted or the grammar is terrible or whatever, then that in itself prompts a score, does it not?

I vote honestly, without giving preferance to people i know versus those i don't know (except for two people here whom i love beyond all logic).

Everyone's stories have WAY more reads than votes; it's nothing personal. Don't sweat it. And, finally, you can't change it so relax and be glad for the votes you *do* get!

Yes I vote, but I don't always give feedback. As an author, I feel like if I except votes, then I should give what I expect to receive.

Hm...works with sex too!!

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. See, I'm a competitive person by nature and I really don't like to lose. With the exception of "non-english" every story on this site is competition. Generally, if I don't give it a 5 or a 2, I don't vote. Motives are suspect. I don't vote 1s.

:D On a side note, I seriously pissed those guys in Mind Control off. I got a string of feedback from various people. "Story was great until the end. Dumb bitch, you got a 1." Believe it or not, some even left emails that worked. I was polite. I said thank you.
