Last Friday, 04/04/25, boxer Chis Van Deerden, appeared on the Megyn Kelly podcast show. He was pleading with Kelly to use her influence to try to obtain the release of his girlfriend, Russian-American ballerina Ksenia Karelina. The latter had been incarcerated in a Russian prison camp pursuant to a 12 year prison term for treason. Her offence? While living in America she donated $51 to a NGO to provide humanitary relief to Ukrainians suffering in the war. Kelly promised she would do what she can to contact the Trump administration to alert them of this injustice. Today 04/10/25 Ms Karelina is on a plane flying back to her home in LA.

Great to hear.

Now what about David Barnes, Robert Gilman, or Stephen Hubbard. Just many of the hundred or so Americans wrongly held in Russia jails....

I'm not entertaining the stupid question of hating trump. The OP is displaying the selfishness indicative of trumpers - it's all about me, me, me. The release of Karelina is not something to look up to but is all about the cronyism that they want the US to become. From Van
Deerden's ask to Kelly's acceptance to be the bridge to the trump crime family - it is about those with wealth and access being able to plead and bribe their rights as individuals to the goddamn of individual rights for all.

As a person or as a President?

Dunno. I've never been in a room with a PResident yet. The closest I've ever been is I was in the Marines doing Security when Bush came to town. I was 19 and and I was still a bit high on that 9/11 nonsense. Also Iraq hadn't happened yet.

And anyone being wrongfully detained who doesn't have the ear of someone at Fox News is going to go right on rotting in jail. If anything, this is a perfect example of why we dislike Trump so much.
Your response is by far the most intemperate, illogical and ridiculous not to mention bizarre reaction to my post. BTW FYI, Megyn Kelly is no longer with Fox News; she left in 2017 as a result of the workplace sexual impropriety conducted by the late Roger Ailes, the head of Fox News at the time. She was fired from NBC after a short stint there since she was not woke enough for the NBC brass. Since about 2020 Ms Kelly has run her own highly successful podcast with over 1,000 episodes, available on Youtube and Sirius radio plus other platforms.

In your response you intimate that your hatred towards Trump is enhanced by this act of charity and generosity afforded to Ms Karerlina. Apparently, you find it unfair that she received this special treatment while other Americans are still languishing in foreign jails. I guess you expect Trump to be omniscient and omnipotent and be able to wave his magic wand and secure freedom for every American prisoner held in foreign jails. You obviously discount the difficulty for the American State Department generally to convince a foreign country to release any inmate since presumably the foreign government's mind-set is that the American prisoner is justly incarcerated.

As it is, within two weeks of Trump's inauguration, Ric Grenell, Trump's special envoy was able to secure release of six Americans held in Venezuela jails. This was quite a remarkable achievement considering that the United States does not diplomatically recognize the Maduro regime. And there was Marc Fogel detained in Russia on drug charges since 2021 who was released also shortly after Trump took office. Trump had met Fogel's mother as a result of his second rally at Butler, PA during the 2024 election campaign. After hearing of Fogel's plight Trump promised her that if he got elected, he would secure the freedom of her son. Trump did get elected and lo and behold Fogel did get released despite several attempts by the State Department under the Biden administration to get Russia to agree to release him.

I would point out that during the podcast, Megyn Kelly did suggest to Chis Van Deerden, that securing Ms Karelina's freedom would be a very iffy thing in light of the ongoing negotiations to achieve a permanent peace and ceasefire in this Russia-Ukraine war. Thus, to secure her freedom in less than a week is truly an outstanding achievement that cannot be lauded enough.
