I have seen proposals for dealing with ISIL by erasing their cities. If your town supports ISIL, your town will be obliterated. No warning. No boots on the ground. No tank columns moving slowly across the landscape. No attempt to gain and hold territory. Merely erasure.

Extend this to an Israeli-style program. If your mosque, or church, or temple, features hate-preaching teachers, it will be bulldozed. If terrorists use your holy site (any faith) for recruitment or training, it will be bulldozed. That includes racist and anti-abortion and sexist terrorists. If your creed supports violence, your infrastructure will be eliminated. If you want to keep your holy sites, expunge the recruiters, the trainers, the proselytizers. If you don't, suffer the consequences.

Is this a free speech issue? Should haters spew hate indiscriminately? The old SCOTUS ruling that "Free speech does not protect yelling FIRE in a crowded theater" and laws about incitement to riot etc seem to apply.

Let's apply this to talk radio, too.

Erasing their cities? What cities? Many of the towns held by DAESH are already piles of rubble.

We had a King during WW2. The Guards served with distinction in several theatres of war. The Household Cavalry didn't wear their shiny breastplates. They used tanks.

If we become as bad as our enemy, there goes ANY moral high ground. War is hell and oft times calls for a whole lot of killing but reprisal raids on unsuspecting villagers?! Russians tried that in Afghanistan, didn't work! Churchill accompanied reprisal attacks into the Swat Valley. Won't catch me in the Swat Valley anytime soon! I dare you to send an SF team there! Over 100 years ago didn't bloody work.

May make you feel good but has no military benefit. Unless you wish to commit genocide across the ME won't even work.

Would any of us cave in to such tactics? I doubt it very much.
