Do the French mean business?

And how did Hitler end up? Did he wins his little genocide thing with the Jews?

You might want to quote some one who won. Even if they are also evil degenerates such as your wannabee prison bum buddy. Hitler was a fucking whack job who ended his own life with a bullet to the head. Real good example of a successful strategy there. Moron!

Maybe Obwana will lose after killing 6 million Muslims and 25 million red limeys.

Concentration Camps are a British invention. They used them during the Boer War to incarcerate Afrikaans women and children who when starved, obligingly died like flies. They used them again in Malaysia in the fifties to uproot the Chinese rural population - again very successful. In fact killing not large but very large numbers of civilians was a standard strategy of the Brits in most of its colonial wars. It tends to destroy morale and makes the civilian population unwilling to support insurrectionists.

The best result from slaughtering civilians wholesale was when the dear old USA nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It would have taken a year of conventional warfare and huge losses to achieve what 2 bombs achieved in a week.

In the present conflict, the ISIL troops shelter within the civilian population in each city. The militarily sensible thing to do would be to wipe both ISIL and the innocent civilians out. Do that 2 or 3 times and support for ISIL would soon diminish.

Or skyrocket.

(You still seem to think ISIL is Syrian....)

A NATO member declaring war does not obligate other member states to also declare war. It's a defensive pact designed to counter the Warsaw Pact/Soviet threat to western Europe during the Cold war, not an unconditional agreement to support individual member states offensive military adventures, such as the Suez Crisis, Vietnam, or the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Obama and the next POTUS will likely commit to logistical support, intel sharing, coordinating naval and air ops, maybe running a few small-scale joint ops, but large-scale ground troop commitment is doubtful.

Article 5 of the North Atlantic treaty, requiring member states to come to the aid of any member state subject to an armed attack, was invoked for the first and only time after the 11 September 2001 attacks.

You're right, but unfortunately the coward in the WH isn't going to lead the way.

Yes, the AMX was considered the all around best tank at the outset.
The "how they were used" is part of military doctrine and tactics. The French were still using tanks dispersed as infantry support vs the German's use of them as the sharp edge of the spear. Still, Colonel DeGaulle managed to press the German flanks hard, but was stopped short of cutting their supply lines, due in a large part, to the German's having air superiority and and the Ju-87.

I doubt the French fleet would have been much help. The war the French were faced with was a land war, not to mention the bulk of the fleet was in the Mediterranean.

And yes, one cannot underestimate the psychological effects lingering from WW1, which was why the Maginot Line was built. It was planned to be extended up along the Belgian frontier, but the damn thing was fucking expensive, and no one (except the Wehrmacht) thought the Ardennes could be used by mechanized, armored forces, at least not without enough delay that defensive forces could be mobilized and dug in

How tanks were used?

The German Blitzkrieg strategy was based not just on the use of tanks but the integration with ground attack aircraft, and using terrorised and displaced civilians to obstruct their opponents' room for manouevre. Civilians were a deliberate target and their response to flee, blocking transport routes, was calculated as part of Blitzkrieg. The German aircraft were superior to the French and more numerous. In 1940 the bulk of the German forces were still using horsedrawn supply lines but that didn't matter because the smaller Blitzkrieg forces were fully mechanised.

The Maginot line was a French politicians' solution to reducing the large cost of a standing army. A force in strengthened defensive positions has a tactical advantage over an attacker. The French army commanders were overruled by political desire to cut costs. But the Maginot line was far more expensive than the politicians had calculated.

The Belgian forts were designed to delay army attacks and didn't consider attack by specialised elite paratroopers. Those forts and the Maginot line were largely manned by second or third rate forces, leaving the first rate forces mobile. But German air superiority made that mobility difficult.

The French capitulation was a shock to the French military forces. They had a more valid claim to being stabbed in the back by their politicians than the Germans had in 1918. Their army was regrouping. De Gaulle's small scale tank attack showed that the Germans were not invulnerable and that Blitzkrieg had left their forces exposed to a flank attack.

Hollande will be asking Russia and the US to help France fight ISIS.

Count on Obama to refuse to provide any meaningful help.

US air strikes in Iraq and Syria outnumber those by France, the UK and Russia by a massive ratio. So far, the French and UK airstrikes have been symbolic, not really significant.

Other countries conducting airstrikes are:

Australia
Canada
Jordan
The Netherlands (Holland)
Turkey

What he wanted to say is "You're right, ogg!"

Neither of you read the link.

The article is from last year. It says the US has conducted more airstrikes than the UK or Russia.

France was attacked just a few days ago.

So the last year doesn't matter, only the last few days does....because that's the only way miles can criticize President Obama, which is #WhatMattersMost

But the countries in my post had made and were continuing air attacks on ISIS long before last Friday. The US airstrikes still outnumber all the rest.

And there have been more airstrikes from the US while Obama has been President than the sum of all the other countries' airstrikes.

Is that an embarrassment to those who see President Obama as weak?

There was also a net negative immigration to the US from Mexico last year, yet the low-information types yammer on and on about the "mexico problem"

And, he took Bush's $1.4 trillion deficit and reduced it to $680 billion, yet the low-information types squeal like stuck pigs over his spending.

ISIS are losing territory, equipment and people.

Or haven't you noticed?

Well ogg, believe it or not that might be another problem in the making. ISIS is losing ground mostly to the Kurds and neither Turkey, Iraq, Syria, nor Iran are very pleased with that turn of events. The one ethnic group in the region that seems to have the backbone to get in there and get their hands dirty are essentially hated by everyone whose ass they're saving.

More ignorance?

We had a King during WW2. The Guards served with distinction in several theatres of war. The Household Cavalry didn't wear their shiny breastplates. They used tanks.

Who or what is Hollande? Why are the Dutch asking for help? Russia shot down that Dutch jet. Doubt Dutch talking to Russia much.

So what has "Hollande" got to do with Paris attacks and ISIL?

President Hollande of France.

He described the Paris attacks as an act of war. Those words have significance in the NATO alliance.

*insert photo of Miles furiously sweating to work up an empty-calorie non-sequitur rebuttal here*

I think I see him running away at his top speed, which admittedly is quite slow. He has more useless threads to start.

I did know that honestly. The stupidity of the hater's posts must be wearing off on me. Brain freeze!
