I was with you until you said women see beyond the physical. We're talking on this thread about women staring at the mirror, not liking what they see, then seeking reassurance by asking the infamous question. I call that looking at the physical.
Its hard on a site like this where sexual undertones focus us on the physical. None of the photos Myst posted for example were of chunky guys and the weight problem with most of the women whose pictures are shown come from an over abundance of breasts, something you are quite intimate with. I wouldn't post a photo of my round body on this site because I doubt many would find it meets the standard of beauty our society has established. You're body does and I say good for you. But frankly, I think this obsession with body type contributes to the loneliness that exists in our culture. Those of us who are self-conscious about how we look end up narrowing our lives for fear someone will judge us. And its not just overweight people, its anyone that doesn't quite fit the norm. IMHO.

I'm a massage therapist...
and I massage quite a few fat women. Some of women will tell me that they don't go out much because of their weight becaused they don't like being judged by other people.
I have no problem with them being fat as long as they feel good about themselves. I think that is why they come to be masaged by me. I won't judge them because of their fat. They have no problem being completely naked lying under my sheets and me massaging them, because they know that they are going to feel good about themselves and feel respected.
Sometimes they cry because I am the only man to actually feel them and know in some way that they are loved.
I had one lady tell me that she wished she could be touched way I touch her more often, with compassion and understanding. She felt worthy of being a person.

"You are absolutely correct; that is a nice hat."
"No Bob, you're not paying attention! Do I look fat?"

As a woman of Rubenesque body shape I have learned to never ask that sort of question.
I once was confronted by someone who had last seen me at 110# and now was seeing me 100# later and that person actually looked at me and said,
"Do you know you are fat?"
I looked down and sceamed,"Oh my GOD!!! I was thin when I left the house-Dear God what happened to me???"
I never ask anyone if I look fat-I may ask if the outfit I am in is flattering but the fat question is taboo.
And if anyone asks me if they appear fat I tend to look blankly and blink a lot. Fat is a personal thing-many, too many very large women are in such denial with their bodies that the flesh becomes a security blanket.
I on the other hand am active, basically happy and in a wonderful marriage with a man who loves me. I would like to lose weight-and I have been slowly and I have done it through moderate exercize and improving my relationship with food. I have also been improving my relationship with friends and building a support network.
Bottom line is men never ask if they look fat or bald-it is only we woman that ask those sorts of painful questions.

When my wife and I got married, 5 1/2 years ago, she was 34 and weighted about 104 on a 5'5" frame. I told her then she was almost to skinney. I was afraid I might hurt her if I really got physical during love making. Now as she prepares to turn 40, her metabolism has changed and she can't do things like she used to. At 159, there is now, and forgive me before I say this, plenty of cushion for the pushin.
She has brought up her weight several times. I always say the same thing. After admitting that it was her looks that first caught my attention, it was not her looks that I married her for. As long as her weight doesn't change her preception of herself, it not really a problem for me. I not some skinney kid myself so I have no room to throw stones. I think it was earthgoddes who said above, you have to be happy with yourself before you can really make anyone else happy.

I don't know why our society is so obsessed with weight. Yes I'm overweight now but I'm still the same person I was when I wore a size 9/10. And back then I thought I was fat cause I couldn't get into a size 5! Women in general constantly compare themselves to what they see on TV and in magazines and it makes me sick that we beat ourselves up for not looking like those anorexic looking wenches. Who in their right mind wouldn't be scared of hurting Calista Flockhart if they hugged her too hard. And forget rough riding Kate Moss!! I have never put someone in the predicament of having to answer the 'fat' question and I hope if I ever do that whoever I ask slaps the shit out of me!
