World Cup

Supporting Scotland and the US… would have to pull for Scotland should they face each other.

Hottake… football is never coming home.

Dark horses: Norway and Japan

Grouped: England (not gonna happen, but one can hope)

2026 banger:

No Scotland No Party!

Sir Harry Kane, with 61 goals in the season just finished, will be the Knight In Shining Armour for England. Ably assisted by Aston Villa heroes Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers. Watch out for Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid. Let's hope his ego doesn't get in the way.

Lovely seeing Scotland at the top of the group, and the Socceroos impressed against Turkiye! The US OZ match is gonna be a brawl!
I know the Scots hate the English, but I hope they do well. They have some outstanding players in John McGinn, Scott McTominay and the 20-year-old Ben Gannon-Doak.

They sure do. I have some cognitive dissonance as a Celtic fan cheering on Shankland. I miss CalMac, but adore McGinn, Tierney, and McTominay! Gannon-Doak is impressing me as well.

What do we think of the World Cup "hydration breaks".

They seem pointless in air-conditioned stadiums, feeding the view that they have been arranged solely to allow for extra TV commercials.

One X account reported:

Fox paid $485 million for the rights to broadcast this World Cup. The New York Times put the fair market value at $1 to $1.5 billion. The hydration break is how Fox gets its money's worth.
FIFA announced mandatory 3-minute pauses midway through each half of all 104 World Cup 2026 matches, not just hot ones. That includes games inside climate-controlled domed stadiums with roofs.
The announcement came at a World Broadcaster Meeting in Washington DC. FIFA said the decision was made after consultation with coaches and broadcasters.
A few months later, FIFA gave broadcasters the green light to sell ads during the pauses. Fox gets 2 minutes and 10 seconds per break, starting 20 seconds after the whistle and ending 30 seconds before play resumes.
Across all 104 games, that's 832 potential ad slots that didn't exist in soccer before this tournament. Fox and Telemundo project a combined $850 million in ad revenue from the 2026 World Cup.

Next season I'm planning my own hydration breaks for fans for the cooler months of winter.

I'm already pitching for sponsorship for an idea that will provide a quick delivery of your chosen refreshment direct to your seat.

On really cold days, how about a Malbec Moment?

I'm also planning to launch a new craft ale for football fans (OK, soccer in the States).

It's called Sweet Caroline.

As soon as somebody starts singing, you have to down a pint immediately.

Just think of the extra revenue for clubs, and increased enjoyment for fans.

Of course, there would be no break in play while deliveries take place.

Americans like scoring. This is a goal-oriented nation. Football fans like the back and forth, the scoring attempts meeting defense and counterattempts. More foreplay and less cumshot.

That explains alot! Had to be tv revenue based. Only in America

Watched first full game last night (France v Senegal). Compared to previous tournaments there appears to be much less interest in this one, at least in England (as its the Scots first appearance in 28 years they're all over it).
Favourites? Argentina. No European side has ever won it outside of Europe.
Dark horses? Based upon what we've seen so far, (and the fact that the FIFA president desperately wants to suck Trump's cock) USA.

Pulling for the US men but not very positive they’ll go far although I’d love to see them surprise some people

With this possibly being Messi’s last World Cup I loved seeing him with the hat trick yesterday and would see myself pulling for Argentina if and when the US is eliminated
