World Cup

England update:
Just woke up to read that England's World Cup last-16 tie against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium will kick off as scheduled at 01:00 BST on Monday after a Fifa U-turn on a plan to bring the game forward.

Pubs planning to screen the match will be able to go ahead as planned, with permission approved for them to stay open until 5am Monday morning!

Both teams were clearly pissed off by Fifa's sudden intervention, which would have disrupted their preparation for the big game.

The BBC website reported:

Football's world governing body held talks with the English and Mexican football associations on Friday after proposing the match be moved to 19:00 BST on Sunday (12:00 local time).

Weather forecasts suggest there could be thunderstorms at that time, though Fifa did not provided any explanation for its suggested change.

Sources told BBC Sport that Fifa had been set to reschedule the fixture, and confirm in a statement, but news of the proposal angered both English and Mexican officials.

One of the highlights of the World Cup has been hearing England fans showing what they think of our outgoing Prime Minister by chanting "Keir Starmer's A Wanker" everywhere they go.

Looking forward to hearing the same refrain in Mexico City, this time with the backing of a mariachi band.
