Well, one thing that prevents your "lurking" is posting.
Those are totally incompatible.
Other than that, this is just a place where some people
hang out. Some of us have stories on Lit; I sure don't
search for stories when a newcomer shows up.
OTOH, writers see things from a different perspective than
readers do. Votes are something which are inflicted on us
rather than a chance to express our opinions.
