Do condoms reduce sensation

I almost said a line from the "Things you don't want to hear during sex" topic.

"Is it in yet?"

Seriously. I almost said that, but somehow had the clarity to keep my mouth shut and kept going. And I'm not particularly small either, so it was not an ideal situation.

Pity the lady had such relaxed muscles, no ?
[I know what you mean. I've also suffered]

Fascinating, guys. I feel TheeGoatPig has a horror story to write up here although possibly in another thread?

Thank you to ThoMac_13 for more detailed information (on the actual topic I'm asking about, that is).

Now, go put your right glove on and try it again.

Y'know, there is a very thin leather glove, I think it's called the Cabretta, developed in the British officer corps so that you can fire a revolver while wearing it. I bought a pair once for my fella .... Mmm.

I suspect that Flying Gloves (as in Gloves for Pilots [here] ) are of similar type

While it has been a while since I needed a condom, the dry ones are the worst. Ultra thin lubed, is good but I don't think the ribbed ones work like you'd expect.

Years ago I got one in a gas station rest room that had little nubs of latex on the tip. Supposed to be a "French Tickler" but I never had a chance to use it. :(

And TGP, even fat girls need love too. You should have fisted her. If only for the tight feel of her pussy on your elbow.

It's all psychological. Feels just the same as long as you aren't wearing a bin bag. And it really is safer. Now that can work both ways in your head.............

Tiggerlilly: Are you male or female and speaking for the male or female, or both? That's pretty important on the value of your testimonial.

There absolutely is less sensation. Contour, or not, lube inside, thickness, and material (latex, synthetic, or lamb skin) can make it better, worse, or just different, but there inevitably is less friction, less wetness, and less transfer of heat.

On the other hand, it's easier to last, without having to back off, do times tables, or whatever, but, since the reason you can last longer is that you are feeling less...

I also agree that it depends in part on the dimensions of the partners. I don't mean to turn this into a size matters/is bigger better thread. I just mean that the laws of physics (coefficient of friction) are applicable. A smaller-than-average guy and a less-than-tight woman may not be well-served by a traditional smooth, latex condom. On the other hand, one or both of them may find that a textured condom, double-lubed condom, and/or contoured condom that is extra thin or is made of a material that transfers heat, works well. Conversely, it there's a tight fight, a condom may actually ease the way, so's to speak.

I can think of less interesting areas of scientific investigation.

Having said that, if we are talking strictly in terms of close-to-bareback sensation, I never found anything better than the condoms made from lamb intestines. Not that there aren't other problems with them.

Gosh thanks for this really informative post. Particularly the lambskin note. As it happens, I wanted this information for a werewolf story and I guess a lambskin condom would be particularly appealing for the pack!

Well, I think I nearly have enough responses to constitute what social scientists call a robust sample! (I couldn't rely on my fella, since he is morbidly feminist and would feel obliged to say: "It makes no difference to me, honestly, dear. Yes I will immediately go and do the washing up. And put out the rubbish.") :D.

Since Honorable Slut found my reference to lamb skin condoms to be of interest, the specific model tested (and only one I have run across) is Naturalamb, a Trojan product.

I alluded to tradeoffs/downsides. There are two that come to mind- although their is a little elasticy band at the base, the condoms themselves are larger and less elastic than most latex or synthetic condoms. They are wet, inside and out, and seem to rely on surface tension or a slight vacuum to stay in place (if your on the lower end of "average" girth...or a little smaller than that...if you're TOO narrow, you might have a problem). Average to larger than average guys probably would stretch them a little, and would be happy with the fit.

The other issues is that they come wet, and need to stay wet. The simple rule is, "Once out, they need to go in, and stay in." If you take a break or get inventive in a way that exposes one to air for too long, it will dry out and feel (and be?) stiff and crackly, and then it's worse than useless.

Oh, and they tend to be expensive, if memory serves. Tough on the budget of a struggling university student (as I recall).

I had a friend a few months ago that needed lambskin because of an allergic reaction to latex. I didn't notice a difference personally...

FWIW, lambskin is reasonable for contraception but doesn't protect well against sexually-transmitted infections. If you want STI protection with a latex allergy, better to look into non-latex synthetic condoms.

Do condoms reduce sensation?

In my experience, it depends on which head you wear them.

Well, as my werewolf got his on partly so that I could write a werewolf safe sex story (having inexplicably failed to find one anywhere! LOL) I had better make him stick to latex. As it were. :D Perhaps as Ben suggests, he can wear the lambskin on his other head. Uberundunter's information suggests it will stretch a bit although possibly not that much.

Thanks HandleyPage for the lubricated condoms link, (especially handley, I mean handy for me as it's in £s not $s). While I strive not to sound too much like a How To manual, I did manage to work in a lubricated condom into the latest werewolf sex scene I've been writing. Since I'm e publishing, perhaps I should link to the product while I'm about it... (Seriously.)

:)

:rose: to you all.
