My father -- one more time. No one else has ever made me feel that unconditional acceptance.

My son -- in a realm where he could talk & tell me his innermost thoughts. I have a huge need to hear him say I'm doing right by him.

And, because it makes a tidy trinity, the holy ghost. I want to know what's truth and what's an elaborate ruse to manipulate the devout.

Well, for me I'd have to pick....

1. Abu ‘Abdullah al-Lawati al-Tanji ibn Battuta - One of my personal heroes. Not only because I respect the fact that his feet touched most of the known world in his day, and I've always wanted to equal or even outdo him, but also because of his knowledge as a legal scholar and Qadi.

2. Sir Richard Francis Burton - Polyglot, explorer, swordsman, physician, spy, ethnographer and all around scoundrel. You all probably know Burton - he served in India and the Crimea, made the Hajj disguised as an Afghani physician, was the first European to penetrate into Somali land (and live), sought out the source of the Nile, translated the 1,001 Nights and Kama Sutra (amongst other works), and searched for the gold mines of Midian, amongst many other exploits. I figure anything with Burton would wind up being quite exciting.

3. Sir Rudyard Kipling - Because I grew up with his stories of India, and jungle animals, and tales of adventure on the Northwest Frontier. Very, very few authors managed to capture that like he did - maybe Robert E. Howard and Talbot Mundy, and James McDonald Frazer - but Kipling was a boyhood hero. Who else could make British Imperialism so child friendly? Although in all fairness, 'The White Man's Burden' was actually written about the U.S.

Also, because you, you would need entertainment, I'd have to vote for Rachel Brice (my personal favorite bellydancer), Natacha Atlas and Azam Ali (beautiful voices both), Rekha (for her role in Umrao Jaan), Nabila Ebeid (wa wa wee wow), Ruby (hey, I saw those videos!) and... hmmm... lets add in Cleopatra VII, Mata Hari, Djaziya, Theda Bara, and a few other classic sex icons. I'm sure Burton would know more than a few.
