I have been hearing little things . . .
about a writer named sarahhh. Curiosity about a shared name?
That's the only reason I read this entire thread.
Observations?
Every author's forum contains a wide array of individuals. There are the sweetly helpful people (you know, the ones who send you PMs with suggestions, or do a mini-critique of your work in the thread, or send you to another site for additional information), there are the overtly critical people (but if you read their words carefully and develop a thick skin your writing will probably improve), there are the cheerleaders (who love everything you write - usually friends, colleagues, perhaps someone who wants to get into your pants), and then there are the "mean" ones.
The mean ones? Could be someone who is having a bad day so they make a joke of your writings, tear it apart for personal enjoyment, get their friends to play. OR it could be someone who is annoyed with your successes and decides to flame you publicly. It can happen, of course it can. And it does.
But this happens less and less in the author hangouts (and much more often in the general BB).
This is a free site. And it is a PORN site. Many people read stories here (even the most critically acclaimed stories) for stroke purposes only. Most of the people who give votes and critiques are not qualified writers.
"1" votes happen. All of the time. I think every writer here has been slammed at one time or another (and usually around contest time). I am glad that Laurel and Manu can sweep the votes regularly to remove any duplicates, but of course inaccuracies will still occur.
Time will tell. The good, solid stories or poems will always stand the test of longevity. When the overall number of votes becomes high enough one person and their buddies can't tank your score.
OF COURSE it is frustrating to get low-voted. The only thing that pisses me off more is having some of my stories stolen and placed on other sites. (Laurel has fixed that for me and for others, by the way - 4 different times.)
Sometimes the low-voting is personal, sometimes it is an asshole giving '1's across the board to every highest ranking story for the hell of it, sometimes your work just isn't very good. It happens.
But for me personally, your comments on this thread completely diminish your overall (albeit important) message. You are losing support from those who really do share your frustration.
And why attack the poetry forum? I know your post "condolences about the loss of a loved one" were in snide reference to your previous Nazi comments, but many poets and authors here are grieving the real and recent loss of a dear friend. When you attack in such a way your message is lost (and you lose allies because of the abhorrent visciousness of your words).
