Did anyone hear that the president of Chick-fil-A made some anti-gay statements?

I didn't see any other threads about this, so I decided to make one.

Apparently, the president of Chick-fil-A said that he is opposed to gay marriage. This was very controversial, so don't people decided to boycott. Then some other people decided to make a special trip to Chick-fil-A as a way to protest the boycott! The restaurants were very crowded today as a result.

Not sure what is going on with Chick-fil-A. I do know that today, traffic was blocked at a local Chick-Fil-A entrance. I had to turn around and take a parallel road. It was not until I was on the parallel (main) road, that I could see what looked like protesters, but could not make out what the picket signs said. I was too focused on navigating past the idiot rubberneckers who apparently forgot how to drive because of the distraction. It also looked like people going in/out and carrying food from the Chick-Fil-A. My best guess is the protesters only improved that location's business.

So the stories really are true!

The founder of Chick-Fil-A is considered religious and honors the day of rest, Sunday, and are closed on Sundays, right? Why don't they protest that instead?

They should protest KFC. Who the fuck goes to a fast food restaurant for mashed potatoes? I'm not 80 fucking years old!

That is why I mostly eat at home to avoid all that dehydrated, instant crap. :)

I look at it this way though.....Why bother protesting one of the world's longest standing religions (Christianity), that has also has the longest standing belief against same sex marriages, when all you have to do is form your own denomination?

If same sex marriage is so important, then why waste time trying to be part of a religion you do not agree with?

Why even bother to protest in the first place?

Seriously folks.

Who cares what the man's religious thing is? If he wants to believe the moon is made of green cheese and there are martians living under the surface of mars, who really gives a rats ass?

He isn't enforcing his religion upon the employees and I don't think that most people who go there give a shit about the corporate owner's religion.

Well said.

I agree. Whether or not I agree with his beliefs, he has every right to believe it.

Chick-Fil-A is run by crazy Christian fundamentalists. This is not surprising.

Except for preventing his employees from earning money on Sundays, no he isn't enforcing religion.

So are you saying that in addition to closing his restaurants on Sundays he does not allow his employees to do any type of work on Sundays. I sure hope the ACLU doesn't find out.
Most companies don't make people work 7 days a week. So what, they know what their day off is far in advance.
Also, I would think if you got hired to work there you would know the deal before you started.

I'm old enuf to remember when KFC came wiff french fries, like about 1960.

If he has any homosexual employees who want to marry the person they love then he is in fact enforcing his religious beliefs on them by actively supporting groups working to make sure those two consenting adults aren't allowed to get married because of the simple fact that they are the same sex.

Do you think he would let his employees work at the KFC on Sundays?

In a service industry such a position is a stupid practise. The human rights campaign should take them to lunch!

Bullshit!!

Unless there is a company policy prohibiting same sex marriage/and or employment if you are gay, what difference does it make what he believes on his own time?

If it come out that Chick-fil-A is discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation the yes, there is an issue.

Otherwise, get over it.

Make up your mind. Is your issue that he wouldn't let them work on Sundays or that he wouldn't let them work for a direct competitor?

Legally, he is not obligated to hire an employee who expresses a desire to do either, but I would be shocked if he gave half a shit that some minimum wage teenager working the counter had a part-time job at Walgreen's or Home Depot on Sunday.

Probably not, but I don't think he would let them work there any other day of the week either. Do you work for the competition on your off days?
