their anthem was booed (sp?) at the Montreal Canadiens game last thursday? I'm sure most of you weren't watching the game or anything but was it in your papers the next day? I'm thinking not but I don't know for sure. The reason I ask is that it seems to be getting more than its' share of attention in Canada and I was wondering if it's being blown out of proportion (I feel it is).

Just curious. I can't imagine American papers even reporting on it.

In the states we've booed yours too many times to remember.

Hockey fans are insane.

There was a thread about it. I got an email from my cousin about it with a link to an article on ESPN or some other sports site that I don't visit. I know there was a blurb about it in the local sports section.

As to whether it's being blown out of proportion, I can't say as I'm not reading/hearing the Canadian news or reactions to it. I would ask how you'd feel if Oh Canada was booed by another country, though.

I hate to say it, but never go by the oppenion of someone at a hockey game. Their just there for the bitches and booze..

Of course we didn't notice. We're Americans. We don't give a crap about hockey.

It has been. Last year during the NBA play-offs.

Sporting events can be uncouth.

However, in Montreal the following game they cheered the anthem and ditto in Toronto and Edmonton and Calgary. We got booed in Florida though during the anthem.

I think this will pass.

It was reported...both in the newspapers and ESPN...as well as on MSNBC....

Thanks, Jo. I never know these things as I don't speak sports. ;) Sounds like it's becoming just yet another thing for sports fans to one-up each other with. <---That has to be the least grammatically correct sentence I've ever posted on Lit! LOL

At least the riots happen only after a Stanley Cup Victory. :p

That's it...I call for an invasion of Canada. We could be home in time for lunch.

*sarcasm

Yeah I caught it on the morning news, or was it a daytime news update over the weekend? I don't remember.

Nooo, do you know how long it took us to get to go to Las Vegas?

Oh, and after your beer. Hick! We'll send your boys back on a barge wrapped in hockey tape in their skivvies.

You guys never could handle Canadian beer.

And you can explain the lipstick on your cheeks to your wives.

ok, first of all, very few bitches at a hockey game. Second of all, after watching three periods of lathargic, emotionless Canadiens hockey, sex doesn't come to mind; but impotence does.

Nora:
How do I feel when our anthem is booed? Depends on the situation. You have to realize I've grown up in Quebec. I'm pretty much used to having my country openly hated.

But the way I see it, it was just another form of protest and I think most people should be able to see it that way. I don't understand why we made such a big issue of it when Americans weren't. But I wasn't sure if it was being discussed or not, thus the reason for my post.
