I don't understand this attack. You don't kick a bear in the shins and hide behind a tree. It's a bear. It knows what it's doing. It will smell you and eat you. The FBI can find fingerprints on a duck's ass, they're going to find out who did this. Then the CIA will open their big file on the group and tell the U.S. Navy that at two o'clock on Tuesday the terrotists will all be having tea in the third room from the left and BA-BOOM.

Burn an American flag, okay. Kidnap an American tourist, fine.

Blow a hole in the side of a U.S. Naval Destroyer? Um, bad idea. Remember the Maine?

That's my point, Sparky -- if you attack the U.S. one way you get the spooks, or maybe you actually change policy, and the U.S. shrugs and moves away.

But you don't attack a U.S. warship, because there's no chance that the U.S. will let it go -- ever. And retaliation will absolutely be big and splashy to keep up our credibility and all, particularly in a part of the world where manhood is measured by the size of your mustache. No, it's going to be the Marines. And the U.S. is going to view it as a "morally good" retaliation since Yemen hides so many terrotists.

If I were an innocent civilian inside Yemen today I might start putting food in the basement. Please let us be careful.

The very fact that any incident in the middle east (even those in non oil producing countries)directly effects the price of crude makes me think of the possibility of an economic motive.

Between this and the events in Ramallah today ... well fill up your gas tanks today kids. The Israelis have gone nuts with this. Gunships and artillery/rocket strikes on the "west bank" Yikes!

As far as retaliation I think Dixon is probably correct. Tommahawks at dawn blowing up some tents or huts at some "terrorist training camp' that hasn't been used in six months.

Thats why, if I was a terrorist I would pick on the US befor say the Brit's or Israelis.

A) The US target is going to make more headlines

B) It is far more likely that you are going to do the cruise missile or airstrike thing and then wash your hands of it. Whereas the Brit's or Israelis are going to go where I live with knives and MP5's and make sure I never get the chance to fuck with them again.

It sucks to be the only superpower left and be held to a higher moral code. Better you guys than anyone else though.

This attack is just one small part of a larger plan. What will happen next?

Right now they are taking the fourth body off the C-17 at Ramstein. I cry every time I look at the TV. It's so sad. Such a waste of lives. And all for no real purpose. Just think, they were standing around, probably bitching, and the next moment the world exploded, and people were dead, some still missing.

And I get so homesick watching this footage. I miss Ramstein so much. I would give up a lot to be able to go back. Sad. They've run out of hearses now. Such a gray day. Fitting for today's duty.

Israeli minister visits disputed Moslem/Jewish holy site and decalres it holy to Judaism and by inference the Moslem claim invalid. Moslems retaliate by attacking Israeli soldiers. Soldiers go on wild random retaliation killing-spree. Soem drunk or high terrorist decides, let's drag the U.S. into this pissing contest. OPEC decides, let's use this as an excuse to jack inflated oil prices still higher (terrorists blew up a navy ship, not an oil field, why should that affect oil prices?).

In high school, I took a course in diplomacy, we had a board game called The Cold War. Country A did something, and by the game's rules, country B could react only in set pre-defined ways. Country C would then declare they are appalled at the behavior of country A or country B (depending on which one was their ally). Country D would then essentially tell counry C to blow it out their ass.
Odd, no matter how we played, eventually two or more countries were at war, there seemd to be no way to keep peace worldwide until the end of the game.

This tragic situation reminds me of that game. Only REAL human lives are being lost, and that's NOT a game!

The last time I saw Ramstein was when a jet went tumbling into the crowd. As a soldier, seeing bodies taken off of planes really depresses me.

The attack on the destroyer was not a randon act. These men were probley in place a while ago and were given the green light to attack. A boat like that takes time to rig up and doesn't pack enough to damage a larger ship. The destroyer was targeted due to it's smaller size.

Who knows if we are going to be able to get to the bottom of this. As far as I know,no one is stepping forward to take credit for this. Probley due to the fact that they know the U.S. will do something.

As for Israel, they are not going to back down and seeing soldiers die will consolidate the general population into striking back. Remember, Israel has been under some form of attack since 1948 and they will strike back. I fear this might be the start of another middle eastern war and I for one would fight for Israel if so called by the U.S. Gov and deployed.
