A shit ton of change there. I'm not sure at all that the time you describe ever existed; it was possibly a majority once.

I can state unequivocally and from direct experience that there's a very strong ethic of working with the government now. Environmentalists--the sane ones, anyways--realize that we have a government, and it's powerful, and that educating the governors and their constituents is a good idea. Coalition building is huge right now.

Hell, Lady P was on advisory boards formed by very powerful elected officials out in OR...they asked her for her help and input.

Cousteau did some absolutely seminal work. Maybe the greatest thing that ever came out of France.

I remember a lot of discussion about pollution. About species going extinct, DDT, wetlands and how they weren't just useless swamps, etc. I also remember my dad, then a member and eventually president of his local homebuilder's society, referring to "birds and bunny" people. There was a lot of ignorance around in those days.

I can remember my dad asking people who had K-Cars what they thought. "I love it!" was the invariable reply. Dad would then ask, "Would you buy another one?" The answer was always no.

I didn't think much of the K cars, so I never bought one.

I'd have bought another Horizon if they were still making them when mine wore out, but I drove off of the lot with a jeep when the time came. A lot of people were repeat caravan customers.

Did your Dad ever ask anybody if they'd buy another GM X car? I don't recall those as banner days for American auto manufacturers in general.


One of the things I remember him for was starting a warranty extension war with the 7/70 protection plan, which I think led to better built and longer lasting American cars.

I thought that the cab forward cars were great, too, but I was kinda hooked on Jeeps.

I am not sure an ideal President exists especially in the wacked world we live in. If I had to choose the top three candidates for the 2012 election in no particular order would be:

1) President Obama
2) Donald Trump
3) Ron Paul

President Obama because I believe he has heard loud and clear from the American public. He has taken too long to focus on pressing issues like jobs and energy policy.

Donald Trump because he "gets it". He can speak from the American public point of view. Does he have wealth? Yes but every politician is rich too. Is America ready for a brash politician that sees the need for radical change in the business climate for the USA? America is looking at an uphill battle in terms of finances and he is a pretty good candidate to get the job done.

Ron Paul is gaining traction in the GOP polling. I think he would be a welcome change as sits in the catbird seat overseeing the FED. He also would a good candiadate to help solve Americas debt problem.
