Tough call. I sort of disagree with you, had the judge ruled also that the prosecution was petty and vindictive (which we all know that it certainly was), the Republicans and their Nigerian talking point distribution network would be flooding the Internetz about an "overbroad" ruling.I believe the judge was actually too generous in the wording of the dismissal, as they were clearly malicious, politically motivated prosecutions with zero legitimacy based on the facts & the law.
The judge seemed to be trying to protect "the justice system" as a whole by squashing the prosecutions based on a "technicality", rather than corrupt intent.

I think a narrowly tailored decision on one key defect in the case....probably the largest and easiest defect....was the prudent way to go.
