Democracy is three sheep and a wolf voting on what to have for dinner.

Because the sheep outnumber the wolves, and that and democracy are the only defenses they have.

Oh, and before any of you derp, in this metaphor the "wolves" are to be found on Wall Street, not in Washington, not in the 'hood, and certainly not at the food-stamps office.

In a group of 4, a democracy would be a wolf, a sheep, a wildcat, and a chimp. Because at least in the above example dogs are omnivores. They could technically eat the vegan meal of the sheep once- they might not like it but they could eat it, whereas the sheep actually couldn't eat meat. But cats are carnivores. They can't eat the sheep's food. But the sheep can't eat the cat's food. The chimp can eat almost anything, and teach the others how to wash it to get the dirt off. They'd be able to work together, compromise, and use their unique skills to get something that everyone can eat. They might have to wind up exerting more effort to get more than one dish, there might be arguments along the way, but they could do it.

The sheep and the wolves would just stand there arguing all day until the three healthy sheep kicked the wolf to death and sold the pelt on the black market or the three healthy wolves wound up eating the sheep.

Don't labor the metaphor.

Don't labor the metaphor.

I labor the metaphor to make a point. Democracy isn't about two mismatched political parties, it's about the power of the people. And the people are diverse. It's only a unique few who look at politics as being about these polar opposing parties, most people within the country being ruled don't fall neatly into party guidelines. If you're going to say that republicans are wolves and democrats are sheep, I gotta call you on it. That's not true. My doctor's a republican, but if he's a wolf he's been housebroken- he eats his his costs and will wave fees all the time. He's operated on my brother for free before. He's a good person. The kind of wolf who people use to help them hunt so they won't starve. PETA is full of liberals- the kind of sheep who jump the fence and eat your screen door. Realistically the kind of sheep that the rest of the herd abandons to die in the wilderness because even other sheep can't stand them. But even more than that, most people aren't going to be sheep or wolves. It'd look like animal crossing. And if you only have those two options it'll look like a bunch of freaky ass sheep/dog hybrids who won't be able to eat with their fucked up digestive system and the whole country will be dead within a generation.

My point was about mismatched social classes, not political parties. In America at present, both parties are owned by the wolves, the only difference -- and it is an important one -- being that the Dems are not wholly owned.

If by "wolves" you mean predators, you can probably find more of them in the 'hood than almost anywhere else. And some of them are even in the food stamp line.

There will never be economic equality, get over it. Fuck the food stamp office too!

Yeah but they are small potatos.

That's not even the goal. More economic equality however is no only possible it's required to keep the country going.

The people you're talking about rarely vote anyway, even those who legally can.

Democracy is a pernicious evil that ends in the looting of the Treasury.

Soon, all possession is regarded as the property of government and the citizenry returns to open banditry with the moral satisfaction of having the law on their own side and should they complain when they are robbed, they are thrown in jail.

The mob is rarely right as it is a creature of numbers and passion, not of reasoning.

That is the logical outcome of Democracy. An Oligarchy which closes ranks and pits the mobs against each other to unleash the passions of their energies on each other and to give each other an enemy who is looting them and the only redress they have is to vote for their faction of the Oligarchy who will go get their loot back, plus interest.

PS - The Dems are fully vested in the Oligarchy.

They just tend to be the University Branch Dividians of the Oligarchy that supplies the wacko ideas to be imposed upon the mobs...

I take it that the answer is no.

At least you adhere to the Liberal ethos of tolerance and diversity by shouting out racial slurs at everyone who thinks differently than you.

So, is your democracy borked, or is this what the sheep wanted for dinner?

They elected Obama in 2008 and reelected him in 2012.
