American high schools are filled with delinquent youth. These are typically 14-18 year old's whom frequently engage in things such as promiscuous sex, drugs and drug dealing, fighting, relentless bullying, gang activity and gang violence, underage tobacco and alcohol use, burglary, robbery, moral decadence, random and senseless acts of violence, sexual assault, car theft, and sometimes even murder.

Also, grades and test scores for a very large majority of schoolchildren in the US are among the poorest in the world. In some areas, students have a greater chance of ending up in prison than they do graduating.

Something is seriously wrong with adolescents and young adults in this country.

Mike, you do pretty well for an IQ of 89. Just saying.

Young punks these days... I blame Eisenhower.

It's obvious that the current "recession generation" and next-generation of youth is likely to yield extremely low job success and income and will probably become part of the giant American welfare state.

It is a complete disaster.

Well, if I hadn't seen your comment about your IQ and something about being functionally literate (can't remember your exact words) I wouldn't have guessed you had any problems.

I am not functionally illiterate, if I was, I would not be able to post on this website.

I believe I meant borderline intellectual functioning, which is defined as having an IQ between normal intelligence and mental retardation. It is between 70-90 according to standardized IQ tests. This is far inadequate for what is required to succeed in college. In today's society, you will not be successful unless have a bachelors degree from a fully accredited university. It is no longer an optional luxury for a good job, it is a requirement.

A huge percentage of high school graduates can barely read and write, name the first president, or even find the United States on a globe.

Well, as I said, I couldn't remember exactly what you said. Anyway, if you hadn't mentioned your intellectual challenges I wouldn't have guessed you had any.

I was given the Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-III) in high school and it was concluded that I had an IQ of approximately 89. i was about 16-17 years old at the time (I can't remember).

89 is not considered mentally challenged, but it is somewhat considerably below normal since "average" intelligence is defined as an IQ of 100. A study concluded that if you do not have an IQ of at least 115, you are unlikely to succeed in post-secondary education. College-level academics are much more difficult and advanced than what is encountered in high school. So much so, that even high school valedictorians struggle to get a passing grade in their classes once they start college.

I don't know what my IQ is, not that it would matter much at this point. I checked out the info wars site a while back but it wasn't of interest to me, although I think eyer was who posted a link from there that led me to check it out.

If your IQ is not at least 115, don't expect to make it all the way through college. Go straight to doing blue-collar labor immediately after graduating high school and struggle to make $30,000 per year.

Do so for the rest of your life and retire at 65.

Well, that would be an easy excuse for me not getting my Bachelor's degree when I only had 2 classes left, but there were extenuating circumstances. Although I'm willing to consider my IQ is lower than average even though I made the dean's list consistently and won honors for my field of study. At this point, it's pretty irrelevant to me.

College is reserved only for those with superior or gifted intelligence.

An IQ over 140 is categorized as "genius." Less than 1% of the entire population falls within this category. These people apply their intelligence to things such as science, engineering, physics, mathematics, and so forth..

I don't know about that..Seems to be an awful lot of people with less than superior intelligence who get college degrees whch leads me to believe that intelligence is only one factor in succeeding at college.

There are extremely few people with IQ's below 100 attending colleges and universities. And if they are, they are not majoring in science, engineering, physics, or mathematics. Job markets for anything other than that are very scant and yield very poor financial returns.

Intelligence is prudent to success and prosperity. People who are wealthy and/or successful are generally much more intelligent and educated than their socioeconomic counterparts. However, only a tiny fraction of the populace possesses this level of intelligence, skill, and aptitude. Probably about 0.5%

This helps explain the widening gap between the rich and poor.

Life isn't fair.

People with genetically-caused mild intellectual challenges (such as myself) should not expect great success in their life.

Geneticists have concluded that low IQ's are caused by random mutations in genes that occur while you are still developing inside your mother's womb.

This is just bad luck.

Listen, Mikey, I know a lot of people in my country who would be happy with $30 000 per year. Most skilled workers hardly manage to reach 20 000, TWA workers are happy now to reach the 15 000 thanks minimum wage.

And we are no third world country.

Are you saying that I should spend the rest of my life working for $15-20K per year?

.....and nothing is going to change.........:(

...or perhaps the mindset of the parents....think that has more to do with it.

Or it could be all of the decadence in movies, television, music, and mass-media corrupting and programming our youth.

This is what's being taught to our children, and at a very young age.

I agree, the kids see more and are exposed to more.....

But, the parents could have more control over that, if they wish. Parental involvement in their child's life goes a long way to curbing some of the rebellion...in my opinion.
