After watching the NHL playoffs, trying to watch soccer is like watching paint dry.
Just can't get into it and all the babies who fall down like they're hurt.

Soccer players run around for 80 minutes pretending to be hurt.
Hockey players (with the exception of the Penguins) run around for 60 minutes pretending they aren't.

I can see what you're saying, but I've played soccer so I guess I got a different perspective. And I agree about the flopping. Bunch of fucking wimps! we never played like that.
Big fucking deal. I always thought the "muricans" were a bunch of whiny bitches. The woman's teams are a lot tougher. Watching the match, I had to wonder how many of those players were actually born in America?

Still not a fan, but once the quarter finals start, I'll pay more attention. I can watch pretty much any kind of competition when it reaches the knockout rounds.
Question for you soccer types: why the hate on the US from you guys? I have friends big into soccer, and most of them are like that.

Yea I'm like that with baseball, basketball & hockey. and then it depends on which teams are in.
I've been thinking about this and I've come up with a few of my pov's.
Outside of the us, soccer is THE sport, totally embraced by all the nations and it's what they do since before they could walk. It's a matter of national pride. Not so in america. So playing for Italy would be i talians, playing for Sweden would be swedes, playing for Brazil & Mexico would be brazilians & mexicans like that. Playing for america...well you're not so sure.
Watching americans playing soccer is like some country outside the us trying to play football. We see the NFL trying to export the game outside the us. Not much success there.
There's something else I thought of but can't remember right now. Got an eye on the match.

American teams are composed off American citizens some foreign born...same as other countries. US teams have come a long way both in quality of play and fan interest. Youth leagues have grown over the years and the fruits of that are paying off now. To have a team that even qualifies to play in the Cup shows the progress made.

Sure it's a big deal. It's only our 5th WC win in the past 60+ years. Take those opportunities to celebrate when you can get them.

Yes, but I don't feel that soccer is as woven in the national fabric of america as it is in other countries.
Yes they won when normally they lost. But let's see them move further in the competition instead of going home early.
That keeper for Mexico was under some pretty heavy fire there but he stood tall. Great match!
But is it me or are there more tie games this time around then before?
And what's up with some of the players wearing those orange sneakers? Is that supposed to signify something?
It's just you. There's only been 3 ties, 2 coming today.

Ochoa epitomized the phrase 'standing on your head' in that game. His wiki page was updated to call him the Mexican Jesus.
And I'm SO glad there's no vuvuzelas this time around!

lets hope that the bad crap that could happen happened monday and nothing else will go wrong over the next 2 games.
I think Eder is much better then ALmeida, the big blow is really F, Contrao
Almeida was a beast in their last warm up match. Can't really gauge vs Germany because they all sucked. Key will be, obviously, neutralizing Ronaldo. Beasley and Jones could easily be the 2 most important players in that game. We also have to try to start our attacks on the off-Ronaldo side the field so that he's not sitting with a ball at his foot right off of a turnover.
Besler has been cleared (thank God). Dempsey, despite his nose being by his ear, was, too...not that I ever had a doubt there. Klinsmann not bringing another forward who can hold the ball is going to be rough. That's not AJo's game and all Wondo (who I'm sure will get the start) does is poach. Neither take up space or have the physical presence of Jozy. Eddie Johnson is sitting at home laughing.
