As an American, this group is looking better and better for USA. It'll be interesting to see if we can take advantage of it or not though!
 
Well, considering Portugal lost on of their best centre backs, as well as their left back, I'd say we can do it. Especially since Portugal has been horrid this game. They just look like they are half-hearted in it.

Did you know he has his own museum....and he isn't even 30! Problem with these mega-stars (some of them) is everybody has their tongue so far up their asses....they don't know anything else. Not that their is anything wrong with that....just not everybody. There needs to be people to keep their swollen heads grounded...they start to believe the media bullshit....that they walk on water...they don't.

I imagine being so famous from a young age and having an entourage of people telling you how wonderful and important and what a hero you are. It must be hard to stay grounded when everyone around you treats you like a God.

That's the problem with a lot of young English players currently. England should have a good crop of youngsters, but they get snapped up into decently big contracts, and then from there they are lost in a sea of loans, where they end up going for the paycheck instead of the work. It has happened to a few of them and it's a shame to see. Either the money or others gets to them and then shit hits the fan and they just start getting too damn cocky.

Oh I was generalising not just about Ronaldo. Some footy players are so up their own arse they can't see the real world. It's sad when people become greedy and self obsessed.

Yeah. And then you have people who just love the game and play it, one team, and just want to make the best of what they can, namely people like Steven Gerrard. He hasn't had too much off-field fame, but he plays the game the right way, and you can't really fault him, other than gifting Chelsea a goal...:p

Gerrard is not known for fucking around with sluts but has had his fair share of gossip related to unclear links with Liverpool thugs. I think being a dedicated captain for many years has granted him the media shelter other players haven't enjoyed.

I doubt it. Otherwise it would have afforded John Terry the same luxury. Even though Terry had more high profile issues, the captaincy really doesn't matter.

As for Germany and Italy...It won't happen this year. Germany has too good a squad right now, and their midfield can shut Pirlo and De Rossi down, which kills Italy's game. Plus, their backs are big enough to contain Mario Balotelli pretty easily.
 
Iran v Argentina is going to be a fun game based on tonight's evidence to date. They're playing 'anywhere will do' at times against Nigeria!
