Deflated holidays.

Oh, I know it's January.

And I know many of us, especially those with kids, are in the process of catching up financially from all those holiday bills.

And many of us are still recovering from the multitude of family gatherings we were forced to attend. Stressful or no, they always take a toll on energy levels.

Still, I'm coping with the Yuletide loss.

But what unfortunate thing did I see on my way home today?

One of those giant blow-up yard Santas. You know the ones I mean? This one was still fully inflated, except he was flat on his back somehow, with one arm up high above his grinning head and the other down by his side. I saw the bottom of his giant boots as I drove by, and couldn't help but feel a bit sad.

He's down and he doesn't even know it.

Santa's laid back.

Sarahh, the thing that gets me every year is all the bare and dry Christmas trees lying at the curb waiting for the garbage trucks to pick them up. It anthropomorphizes them for me and makes me sad. (But not this year cos I wasn't here for that day :) ).

Perdita,

On Cape Cod for many years they would ask people to drop their trees off at collection points. Not so they could be run off to the local landfill but so they could collect them and re-use them. Those trees were used to stabilise things like sand dunes in the state parks, or the were used as mulch for the numerouse trails.
