Define "woke"

The first thing that comes to mind is believing that there are 37 different pronouns and insisting that everyone buy into that. Or that programming young children into the same type of thinking is not criminal. Or that reverse racism isn't still racism. Or trying to turn criminals into social martyrs. Or that anyone who votes for a particular candidate is absolutely a racist. The list goes on.
With the exception of "reverse racism isn't still racism", the people you are likely referring to aren't saying any of those things.

C’mon you guys….

I get that it is fun to discuss topics like this….

…..but I think we all know what “woke” means or is in reference too regardless how it started or where it is now.

Try and forget definitions, sides and even Trump and try and focus on common sense.

If you believe that:

Crime should go basically unpunished…

Virtually anyone is allowed to enter our country by any means possible….

The country should go “green” prematurely and irresponsibly….

Then you should be happy with the way things are going, and continue to use your vote and voice to continue to uphold your beliefs and opinions….

….but remember…..they are only opinions, and everyone has their own and all are valid, but it seems to me that common sense would suggest that while all of those concepts do seem fair in some way, personally I want to live in a strong and prosperous country, and it seems apparent that those ideals only make us weaker as a whole and our lives more difficult.

I want to live in a clean world, a clean country, where everything and everyone is equal….

….but I tell you this….

THAT OBJECTIVE IS COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC and goes against nature itself. Nothing will ever be completely fair, and there is NO WAY everyone will ever be equal and fairly treated.

We live in a great country and my guess is most of those reading this have pretty good lives.

I would think it would be best to preserve our way of life, because if we don’t take care of ourselves and our interests first, we may end up finding that you we won’t be helped up when we are down.

So yeah, I guess I am looking out for myself.

I do consider the lives and feelings of others, but yeah….me and mine come first……

..I follow no political party, and follow the ideals of common sense and self preservation.

Your efforts to be balanced are commendable but you could say that about every type of man made progress in the world, but it is in our nature to transcend the natural, and imagine our own paradigms. (Cars bridges antibiotics writing...)

Life is change. Progress is not to be taken for granted. Societies that stagnate fall, and diversity has waaaay more positives than negatives.

A strong social safety net is beneficial to you and yours. A fair prison system likewise. Human rights are exactly that, they benefit everyone.

And as a more general point, climate change is a provable, measurable phenomenon. It is possible that unless more people, especially powerful people with industrial influence get "woke" we'll all be sleeping forevers.

From my observations:
  • the term is used far more by conservatives than any other group, to an astonishing degree
  • the term is used as an insult by conservatives
  • it is also used as a rallying cry by conservatives for other conservatives, again to an astonishing degree

I use the term 'woke' for people who are first-most interested in how THEY come across, those who browbeat you on social media with their kindness. Moreover, for Democrat politicians, being 'woke' is also tied to chances of getting ahead, so their woke messages often ring hollow to me.

I have to say, I thought ALEXANDRIA OCTAVIA CORTEZ was a narcissist or chameleon,
but I was wrong.
She was one of those 20 Dems. who signed against funding the Ukraine war. It takes guts to go against your party and expose your career like that..

interestingly enough, more than half of the Democrats who signed that anti-war letter were children of immigrants, or people of color.

Hey, ole "Deliverer" up there (post 52) is on to something.

If you think men can get pregnant.................you might be woke. :D

If one traffics in conservative propaganda, then yes. However not everyone does.

The dominant theme in this thread is the marked level of bitterness, vitriole and anger from the conservatives.
Most excellent bait thread ;) Once I saw the title, I knew the participants and their inevitable collective joyous whining.

iby the trumpies for anyone who has an interest in elevating the rights of certain people
the reason 'gay, queer, trans, Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims' are issues to be spoken about are because they involve REAL people having REAL problems, most frequently due to the discriminatory behaviour of those who feel these people don't matter.
you tell'em

Oddly enough I didn't post it as bait thread. The reality is that "woke" is used as a pejorative by the conservatives. It's an oft used term in their propaganda. It's just another pinata for them to swing at.

Right. Good bait thread.

Right. Good bait thread.
LOL it's funny after I typed that, I had to admit, yeah maybe it's classified that way. However it really is worth discussing. The right have so many bludgeoning tools in their propaganda basket, it's a bit insane.

:giggle:

Too bad the usual suspects can't proudly claim to have you on ignore anymore. lol.

I've noticed that the right grabs onto a term once used by the left to use against them. Political correctness, woke..etc. And then that term quickly just becomes a catch-all for whatever grievance they have.

There are many posts on this thread that read straight from the conservative propaganda talking points. It's like autopilot.

Whether baited or not, don't you think it sad that so much, not just in this thread, time is spent in our own echo chambers, emerging occasionally to exchange terms of abuse, then back to self-absorption.

As a social species, if we'd spent so much time blinkered in bunkers, we'd never have benefitted from what we can each bring to the table.

Regarding echo chambers, if this thread is to be used as an example, how would you classify the levels of vitriol and anger from each of these groups? Do you see a disparity? Or do you see the verbiage from each as on the same level and intensity?

This thread makes me wonder what happened to the eleventymillion anti-CRT threads.

I guess when Bud_Spencer died, his minions did too.

I'm not sure about the means or value of classifying, but describing - I'd stick to sad, for each of us individually, for our societies and politics.

So then you notice no difference between the responses? You can classify it as sad, and it is, but that's something of a cop out from the question asked.
